Horns … Down? Arkansas Coach Bielema Trolls Texas
During a handshake with Texas coach Charlie Strong at today’s Advocare V100 Texas Bowl coaches press conference, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema slyly threw in what looks like a Horns-down symbol. Various outlets—the Alcalde included—were on hand to snap pictures of the gesture.
During the conference, relations between the two coaches seemed good natured and mutually respectful. Strong laughed at Bielema’s jokes, and both coaches noted that they were excited at the chance to temporarily rekindle an old rivalry.
Bielema might be trying to bring the rivalry back permanently. There’s incentive—it’s proven to be lucrative so far—with the Texas Bowl selling out for the first time in its history. It could also be retribution for John Harris’ disparaging comments on playing at NRG Stadium—the breakout senior wide receiver claimed it was “no big deal”—that upset Arkansas.
Regardless of Bielema’s motivation, we’ll see who gets the last laugh on game day. Texas just went 5-4 in the top conference in college football. Arkansas went 2-6 in second-place SEC.
