Daily Texan, Cactus Win National Student Publication Awards
This past weekend, UT student publications received awards and honorable mentions at the National College Media Convention held at the Galt House in Louisville, Ky.
The Daily Texan, with editor Lauren Winchester and advisor Doug Warren, won Best of Show in the four-year daily broadsheet newspaper category for its coverage of the Sept. 28 campus shooting. Audrey White, senior news reporter, received an honorable mention for Story of the Year on her exposé of the life of a transgendered student at UT.
The Cactus yearbook was also named a finalist for the Yearbook Pacemaker award. Cactus photographer, Andrew Rogers, received a Photo Excellence award in Spot News, for the below picture.
Colleges and universities in attendance also had the opportunity to participate in a new multimedia workshop called The Main Street Stories Project. Students and advisors worked with expert coaches in multimedia on audio and video to launch their own website at the end of the four-day workshop.
The convention is sponsored by the Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Advisors.
Congratulations to the Daily Texan and Cactus yearbook for their exceptional work.
