Novelist Sarah Bird Graces The Alcalde’s November|December 2010 Cover
On the cover of the November|December 2010 issue of The Alcalde, the magazine for Texas Exes, you’ll find Texas novelist and UT alumna Sarah Bird, MA ’76.
Bird recently spent a few weeks at UT’s famed Dobie Paisano Ranch near Austin. The place once belonged to UT professor and folklorist J. Frank Dobie, who would escape to the ranch with buddies Roy Bedichek and Walter Webb.
In case you are wondering,
paisano is the Spanish word for roadrunner.
Our article by freelancer Mike Agresta tells the history of the ranch and showcases some works by Texas luminaries who have won prestigious Dobie Paisano Fellowships.
Photographer Sarah Wilson waded waist-deep into Barton Creek to get this shot of Bird sitting on the Philosopher’s Rock. A hat-tip to Bill Carson for his design.
You should be a member of the Texas Exes so you can get the magazine (check out past issues here).
If you are a member, the new issue should be in your mailbox by the end of this week.
