Longhorn Band Revives “March Around” Tradition

The sound of brass and drums filled the air on Friday evening as the Longhorn Band revived a century-old tradition: the March Around.
The full band, accompanied by a spirited cavalcade (Texas Cheer, Pom, the Cowboys, and the Orange Jackets), paraded around campus playing their repertoire of Texas tunes.
Love was in the air, too. A newlywed couple had their wedding photo session pleasantly interrupted by the parade—they posed for photos with the band. Another alumni couple got engaged at the end of the event.
The first March Around took place in 1901, but in recent decades the tradition was abandoned. Last week’s event was the second in recent years.
