Longhorns Meet the Moai
Ann and Paul Eschenfelder, BA ’71, Life Members, get their horns up next to a Moai statue on Easter Island (Rapa Nui) in the South Pacific, as part of a world cruise aboard the Seabourn Sojourn. Paul was working on board as a guest lecturer and Seabourn conversationalist. The villagers are said to benefit from the presence of the giant tikis, which were carved from stone to capture the spiritual power or “mana” of their deceased leaders or strong men. Each village would have its own Moai, some had as many as nine Moai.
