UT Capital Campaign Exceeds $3 Billion Goal
As the clock runs out on Bill Powers’ time at the helm of UT-Austin—he will step down as president on June 2, 2015—he and other university leaders are celebrating a major accomplishment this week: finishing a record-breaking fundraising campaign.
The Campaign for Texas was designed to enable the recommendations of the Commission of 125, a group of leaders and donors that met in 2002 to chart the course of UT’s future. When the final tally came in on Sunday, the ambitious $3 billion goal was met, plus another $115 million.
“My heart is filled with thanks for every member of the Longhorn family—individuals, foundations, associations and corporations—who helped us,” Powers said in a statement.
Below, check out some mind-boggling numbers:
- $856 million: Amount raised in the campaign’s final year, setting a new record for single-year higher-education fundraising in Texas.
- 42 percent: Share of the campaign’s total that came in during the final two years ($1.3 billion).
- 33 percent: Portion of all alumni who donated.
- 17,900: Number of students who donated.
- 12,155: Number of corporations, foundations, and other groups that donated.
- 846: Number of student scholarships and endowments created during the campaign.
