UT Nabs Higher Ranking for Value
From landing the No. 6 spot for top alumni salaries to being named the ninth-happiest college in the nation, 2013 was a great rankings year for The University of Texas—and 2014 is already looking equally as impressive.
UT has moved up the ranks to No. 21 on Kiplinger’s 2014 list of the 100 best values in public colleges, up from 27th in 2013. The ranking—which recognizes colleges that offer a combination of quality education and economic value—took into account admission rates, percentage of freshmen who return as sophomores, student-faculty ratios, and graduation rates at four-year public U.S. universities. Other factors included yearly tuition and fees, financial aid available to students, and average debt upon graduation.
Three other Texas schools also made the cut this year: Texas Tech at 87, UT-Dallas at 39, and Texas A&M ahead of us at 17. According to the list, the Aggies have higher admission rates, lower tuition costs, and less debt at graduation. But we bested our neighbors in College Station in graduation rates: 51 percent to their 49.
The complete ranking will be published in Kiplinger’s February issue.
