UT Accounting Ranked No.1 for Ninth Time in 12 Years
The Accounting Department of the McCombs School of Business added up a perfect score last month as it swept the rankings of the Public Accounting Report Annual Professors Survey in August in the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral categories, making it the ninth time in 12 years the department earned the distinction.
“Our success is really all about student success, and that is more than just having high admittance standards,” Jim Franklin, director of the school’s Master in Professional Accounting program, said in a McCombs Today story.
At the undergraduate level, this is the 22nd year in a row that the program has been awarded either first or second place, and UT beat runner-up the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and third-place Brigham Young University.
Those same two schools were behind Texas at the Master’s level, with BYU placing second in the poll and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in third. The UT Master’s program has been voted the top accounting program in 19 of the last 20 surveys.
The highest degree level, the Doctoral program, had been named the top program 10 times in the last 12 years, and has been listed in at least the top four since 1994.
The PAR is an independent accounting profession newsletter, and the 2013 survey was completed by hundreds of professors from nearly 200 U.S. institutions and is based solely on peer assessment.
