A University of the First Class: Bill Powers
On the occasion of the Alcalde’s 100th anniversary, we asked Longhorns what “a University of the first class” means to them.

A university of the first class changes the world for the better. It does that by changing the lives of its students. Their lives are changed only if they are taught by highly talented and deeply caring faculty. And the most talented faculty members are attracted by an environment that encourages them to pursue questions about which they are curious and add to humanity’s body of knowledge along the full spectrum of human understanding. Any university of the first class must fully integrate these twin missions of teaching and discovery.
