Guadalupe County Chapter Celebrates July Fourth in Style

The Texas Exes Guadalupe County Chapter celebrated Independence Day Longhorn-style by winning “Best Local Entry” at the Biggest Small-town Fourth of July Parade in Seguin with a UT-themed float.

The float was decked out with a UT Tower made of cardboard boxes, football goalposts crafted from cardboard tubes, and a blow-up 7-foot-tall Bevo—all on a flatbed trailer. The float was one of four to win a trophy out of 150 entries.

The group was “really excited to win,” says chapter president Ann Terry, BS ’73. “It’s amazing what you can do with duct tape, zip ties, and bungee cords.”

The float also featured two former Longhorn Band members—Tom Richey, BA ’71, Life Member, and Theresa Richey, BA ’73, Life Member—in the bed of the pickup truck, where they played patriotic songs (including Longhorn pep tunes). Terry and Briana Lyssy, BA ’04, rode in the trailer.

Terry says in addition to participating in the parade next year, the chapter plans on entering Seguin’s holiday parade in December. They hope to create a more permanent Tower sculpture out of wood.
