Texas Exes Care Makes President Powers’ Best of 2012 List
In February, more than 1,000 Exes in 53 chapters and networks worldwide volunteered during the monthlong service initiative known as the Texas Exes Care—and UT took notice.
President Bill Powers’ latest post on his blog, Tower Talk, outlines his favorite 12 stories of the 2011-12 academic year. We’re proud that the efforts of our alumni made the cut.
Texas Exes Care is an ongoing partnership between the Texas Exes and the University’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement to expand The Project, a yearly, student-led day of service, into a global volunteer initiative.
During the inaugural year of Texas Exes Care, chapters collectively donated 27 pints of blood, 83 orange and white pansies, 245 hours of service, and 2,104 cans of food. From thanking 40 veterans for their service to beautifying parks, volunteers did it all—proof that what starts at The University of Texas really does change the world.
An Alcalde story about the recently greenlighted medical school also landed on Powers’ list—in first place, actually. Though Powers says the list is “in no particular order,” it sure feels good to be on top.
