Big Night: Double Basketball Triumph Over Aggies
It was a symbolic, historic, and unbelievably satisfying night for Texas basketball last night as both the men’s and women’s teams took on—and defeated—Texas A&M for one of the last times.
Here are the impressive stats—sure to blow the true Texas fan’s mind.
The men put a 61-51 win over the Aggies at last night’s State Farm Lone Star Showdown at the Frank Erwin Center —quite possibly the last contest the two teams will play in Austin. Freshman Julien Lewis led the team with 16 points, followed by junor J’Covan Brown with 14 and senior Clint Chapman with 11.
Last night’s triumph gives Texas a 136-85 lead in all-time series wins against A&M. The first rivalry match was played in 1917.
The Lady Longhorns pulled off an astonishing feat in College Station last night, ending both this season’s Big 12 losing streak and breaking the Aggies’ 11-game winning streak against UT.
This was the first time since Jan. 21, 2007, that the Texas women’s team has defeated A&M.
In a thrilling, race-the-clock 76-71 win, sophomore Chassidy Fussell scored 22 points and senior Ashley Gayle had 17.
Despite A&M’s edge in recent years, the women’s win gave Texas a definitive 59-23 lead in series wins against the Aggies.
And there’s more ahead, so snag tickets now. The men will take on A&M for the last time in College Station on Feb. 6. The women will play here in Austin on March 4.
