UTPD Reports $61,500 In Property Stolen
During the past weekend, $61,500 worth of University property was stolen, UTPD’s Campus Watch report said Tuesday.
A 500- to 600-pound pallet of copper wire, worth $1,500 was stolen from a room inside a construction site building at 2200 Comal; a $6,000 all-terrain vehicle was stolen from a separate, fenced in construction site; and a $54,000 television camera is missing from a studio in the Communications Building B.
The Daily Texan reported in the fall that personal theft was on the rise, but these crimes took it to a new level.
“In the current economic climate, it is important that we all do our part to help protect the resources on campus,” wrote the officers who send out the daily report of selected crimes on campus in Tuesday’s e-mail. “The lost resources cost the University, which in turn affects us all. Be observant of your surroundings and report suspicious behavior or activity as soon as you recognize it.”
UTPD recommends students, faculty, and staff program its number, 512-471-4441, into their cell phones for easy access. Officers respond to calls 24 hours a day.
