UT’s Amy Alexander Is Sports Illustrated Cheerleader Of The Week
Texas cheerleader Amy Alexander is cheerleader of the week on Sports Illustrated’s SI.com.
The senior nutrition major has plans for med school following graduation.
In fact, when asked by Sports Illustrated what five people (living or dead) she’d most like to have dinner with, she named Distinguished Alumnus Denton Cooley, BA ’41, Life Member — and Oprah, Larry King, Colin Powell, and James Cameron.
Cooley was a basketball star at Texas but went on to be an even bigger star as a heart surgeon. In 1968 he performed the first successful heart transplant in the United States and the next year became the first surgeon to implant an artificial heart in a person.
He founded Houston’s Texas Heart Institute and still serves there as surgeon-in-chief.
Paging Dr. Cooley, can you make a Longhorn girl’s dream come true?
