Young Texans Society To Donate Proceeds Of Golf Tourney To 40 Acres Scholarship Program

All right, golfers. Dust off your driver, clean the turf off your pitching wedge, and strap on your spikey shoes. It’s time to hit the links.

Well, not quite, but it is time to register for the UT Club‘s Young Texans Society fifth-annual charity golf tournament.

This year, the UT Club is partnering with the Texas Exes to donate the proceeds to the 40 Acres Scholarship program, the Association’s effort to recruit the nation’s best students to Texas by offering them full rides along with programs of community service, study abroad, and internships.

“It seemed like such a good match,” said Samantha McMahon, BA ’01, chair of the Young Texans Society golf tournament. “We love the chance to help promote the 40 Acres Scholarship program.”

Last year, the Young Texans Society donated $4,000 to the Hispanic Texas Exes Challenge Grant scholarship. McMahon says the goal this year is to double that amount.

Longtime Texas Exes scholarship committee member Wolfgang Niedert, BA ’98, Life Member, who is also in the Young Texans Society, suggested the group donate the money to the new 40 Acres program.

There’s space enough for only 120 players this year, so sign up right this very second. The cost is $150 for UT Club members and $175 for nonmembers.
