Texas Alums Boil First Crawfish Of Season

It’s April in Austin, and the season for mud bugs is upon us.

The city’s Young Alumni combined crawfish with cupcakes, beer, and baseball Saturday in what’s swiftly become one of the group’s most popular annual events.

The 2nd annual gathering sold out at 170 participants.

They came to a parking lot near UFCU Disch-Falk Field at noon before the 2 p.m. game against the Kansas Jayhawks. (Which the No. 6 Longhorns comfortably won 3-1. In fact, they swept the series, with a 3-2 victory Friday and a 10-4 win Sunday.)

And the young alums feasted. Not only were there the meaty, messy red crawlers, there were also the favorite sides — potatoes, sausage, mushrooms, and corn on the cob. The 300 pounds of crawfish that Catering by Rosemary cooked up lasted until just before the game started.

All Texas Exes members kept their beverage cold with a specially designed koozie. Cheers to spring, and to the Longhorns! Next, they play the Texas State Bobcats tonight at home. Here’s hoping they take it all the way to Omaha for the College World Series again this year.
