UT Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds To Receive Distinguished Service Award
The Texas Exes honor six outstanding alumni every year at the Distinguished Alumnus Awards.
Recipients are selected based on their career success and their development of a strong relationship with the University.
But every so often, a non-alumnus stands out for their commitment to the University. For that, the Texas Exes have the selective Distinguished Service Award. Chosen by the past presidents of the Association, only five individuals have previously received this honor.
This year will mark the sixth when UT’s athletics director for the past 29 years, DeLoss Dodds, will be honored with the award.
Dodds arrived at UT in 1981, becoming the ninth men’s athletics director. Longhorn teams have won 13 national championships and 99 conference (Southwest and Big 12) titles in nine different sports during his tenure.
He also created the Longhorn Foundation, which has become the center of official fundraising for the athletics department.
Dodds is as legendary as an athletics director can be. Just recently, as conference realignment rumors were flying, it was Dodds’ next move everyone was waiting for.
The Texas Exes will be thrilled to honor an extraordinary leader and ardent supporter of the University at the Distinguished Alumnus Awards this October. For more on Dodds and this award, see the official news release here.
Hook ’em, DeLoss! And thanks for all you do!
