Texas Volleyball Knocks Off Iowa State In 5-Set Thriller At Gregory Gym
The No. 13-ranked Texas Longhorns are back in the hunt for Big 12 supremacy after winning a hard-fought, five-set match against the No. 9-ranked Iowa State Cyclones last night in Gregory Gym.
Junior middle blocker Rachel Adams had a career-high 18 kills to pace Texas to the win, the squad’s first over a Top 10 team this year.
The 17-25, 25-16, 12-25, 25-15, 15-11 victory improved the Longhorns to 8-4 on the year and 3-1 in Big 12 play.
“That’s what this sport is all about,” Head Coach Jerritt Elliott said after the game. “When you’re coaching, you want to have a team that fights and is able to rebound.”
And rebounding is exactly what Texas is looking to do. After entering the season ranked third in the nation, the team lost three matches in a row, including a shellacking from the Aggies in the conference opener.
The Horns got a big win last week against Missouri, and last night’s against Iowa State brings their win streak to three, which should boost their confidence before their showdown with No. 3-ranked Nebraska on Saturday in Lincoln.
First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. Central on FOX Sports Net.
