Dallas Chapter Raises $53K for Scholarships

The Texas Exes Dallas Chapter’s annual Get Teed Off at OU Golf Tournament, like the game against the Sooners, has come and gone. But while things didn’t go so great on the gridiron, it was a banner year on the fairways.

Nearly 400 golfers, including this correspondent, ditched work the Friday before the game to spend a long, leisurely day on the links of Firewheel Golf Course in Plano. Aside from getting to play golf and drink beer, the tournament is an excuse to support Texas Exes scholarships that help send top students from the Metroplex to The University of Texas.

Now in its 24th year, the tournament and weekend-long celebration around the TX-OU game raised $53,000 for scholarships. Thanks to generous sponsorship from the University Co-op, every golfer literally walked away with something: a  new pair of golf shoes on his or her feet.

Watch this fantastic video of the golf tournament, shot by Jeff McWhorter, while out wandering the course.
