Bailey Webster Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
Texas Football is getting a lot of love this week for its big win against Oklahoma, but another UT team—and its star player—deserve kudos, too.
Senior outsider hitter and our September|October cover star Bailey Webster was chosen as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week this week after leading the nation in both kills (4.86) and points (5.67).
The All-American’s conference leading stats came from a perfect Texas weekend as the Longhorns went 2-0, beating Texas Tech and Kansas.
In the win against Tech, Webster recorded 14 kills and just one error. In the matchup with Kansas, she had 20 kills on just three errors. She finished the weekend with a combined hitting percentage of .455.
In our feature story on Webster (“Queen of the Court,” Sept.|Oct. 2013), Webster acknowledged the pressure of high expectations after leading her team to a national championship last year: “We’ve got a bullseye on our backs this season,” she said. So far, Texas Volleyball is not just withstanding the pressure; they’re shining. With the win over Kansas, the Longhorns secured the top spot in the Big 12 standings and now hold a 5-0 conference record.
