Longhorn Fans Among Most Engaged in College Football
Whether it’s how much we’re being talked about, what a good value we are, or just how great a school we are, The University of Texas at Austin is constantly topping “best of” lists. Thus, it comes as no surprise that the ’Horns recently landed a spot on TicketCity’s list of most engaged football fans.
Coming in at No. 8, UT fans beat out those at other top football schools like the University of Florida, the University of Oregon, and Clemson University. And with a program as well-known and highly ranked as Texas, that’s really to be expected.
In order to measure engagement both on and off the field, TicketCity used an algorithm that took into account different metrics from the 2012 season: game attendance, ticket prices, how full each team’s stadium was, and social media activity.
Though UT nabbed a top-five rating for highest average home game attendance, we fell short of another Texas school on the overall list: A&M. At No. 5, A&M edged ahead of us with high ratings in categories like highest average home game ticket price (which we at the Alcalde don’t think is something to be proud of) and highest percentage of stadium seats filled.
Even though we’re pretty sure our fans are No. 1, the rankings are OK with us for now—football season starts in just a few weeks, and that’s when we’ll see who really has the best fans.
