Pitch Perfect: Blaire Luna Scores Fifth No-Hitter
The UT Softball season got off to a nice start last night with a 6-0 win over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. Senior pitcher Blaire Luna had a pretty good night, too: she pitched the fifth no-hitter of her career.
Luna finished the game with 14 strikeouts and only two walks. The no-hitter was her first since a 2011 perfect game against Washington, whom the Longhorns bested 12-0.
An Austin native, Luna holds UT pitching records second only to those of Cat Osterman, BA ’07, Life Member, who pitched in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics before softball was dropped from the Games.
“I tried not to think about it,” Luna said after the game. “I just wanted to go out there and throw my game.”
The Longhorns take on North Texas tonight at 6 p.m. at the Red & Charline McCombs Field.
