Longhorn Football Ranked 15th in NCAA Coaches Poll

With the season just less than a month away, Longhorn fans are putting on their best Hank Williams Jr. impressions. We are definitely “ready for some football!” And the first 2012 USA Today Sports Coaches Poll confirms that we are right to be revved up.

After slipping off the list—which tallies the expectations of 59 head coaches—last year with an 8-5 record, the Longhorns are ranked 15th. With an exciting new schedule, the Longhorns are in a prime position to create some upsets in what’s shaping up to be a knockout season.

The ranking is about 14 spots short of where Longhorn fans hope to be at the end of the season, but it’s two up from the Big 12 Conference’s newest recruit, Texas Christian University. (The team that TCU replaced didn’t make the cut.) And compared to Baylor University, which dropped off the list entirely after the departure of star quarterback Robert Griffin III, it’s high cotton.

With better stability and a solid roster of recruits, UT is bound to have a better season this fall, and the rankings reflect that.
