How do Team USA swimmers blow off steam while training for the most important competition of their lives? The world found out yesterday, when a video of the team dancing and lip-synching to Carly Rae Jepsen’s pop anthem “Call Me Maybe” hit YouTube.
Directed by UT senior Kathleen Hersey, who’s competing in the women’s 200m butterfly at the Olympics, the viral video has garnered more than 390,000 views in just one day. It features Team USA athletes grooving everywhere from airplanes to autograph signings and, of course, the pool.
This is just the latest of many viral videos arising from what’s been hailed as the “song of the summer.” Pop icons like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Ashley Tisdale, late night television host Jimmy Fallon, NPR reporters, and the U.S. military in Afghanistan have all created clips. Even President Barack Obama has been pulled into the mix (without his knowledge, mind you).
Look for your favorite Longhorn swimmers getting their groove on in the video above, then find out when they’ll be competing here.
