U.S. News Ranking Has UT 45th-Best in Nation, Tops in Big 12

The annual U.S. News & World Report college rankings are out, and UT has been named the country’s 45th best.

It’s exactly the same overall rank for UT-Austin as last year. Out of public schools, UT-Austin finished 13th.

Rice was the only Texas university ranked ahead of UT, at 17, but no public Texas university was higher.

Texas A&M finished at 58, Southern Methodist University was 62, and Baylor and TCU were ranked 75 and 97, respectively.

From a conference-realignment perspective, UT ranked No. 1 among Big 12 schools. Five Pac-12 schools were listed above Texas, as were seven ACC schools, three Big 10 schools and two more (Illinois and Penn State) were exactly tied with UT at 45.

Only one SEC school (Vanderbilt) ranked higher than UT-Austin.

In other recent rankings, UT was named 35th-best university in the world and 19th-best university in the country for producing public good. And trust us—in part because the ranking business never dies—there will be more to come.
