Texas Exes Chapters awarded 322 University of Texas at Austin students with scholarships totaling $482,720 at a dinner in the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center last week.

Some 74 Texas Exes Chapters from around the world raised money to help incoming freshmen or continuing UT students pay for their education.

“Chapter scholarships are probably the No. 1 way our volunteers stay involved with UT and give back to their community,” says Leticia Acosta, director of alumni relations for the Texas Exes. “It’s a way for alumni to make sure future Longhorns have a great experience at UT and hopefully become enthusiastic and involved alumni one day.”

Each chapter has its own points of emphasis with its scholarship, and some chapters have more than one. But almost all chapter scholarships are earmarked for students from a particular geographic area.

The Dallas Chapter, for example, awards Dallas-area UT students. But Texas Exes chapters are all over; there are currently 91 across the globe.

Between chapter scholarships, named scholarships, and the new Forty Acres Scholars program, the Texas Exes will dole out $1.9 million to 681 UT students this year.
