Alumna Is Half of Unique Sibling Pair in the U.S. Navy

Raquel Bono, BA ’79, was recently promoted to rear admiral in the U.S. Navy. Bono and her brother, Anatolio B. Cruz III (left), are now the only brother and sister pair, and the only siblings of Filipiono descent, to hold flag-officer ranks simultaneously. Bono, who earned her medical degree from Texas Tech, was the first female graduate of the general surgery residency in the Naval Medical Center.
