Neighborhood Longhorns Program Gets a Boost from Schaefer’s 10k for 10k Challenge

Texas women’s basketball coach and Big 12 Coach of the Year, Vic Schaefer, challenged 10,000 fans to attend their final regular season game on Feb. 27 in Austin, calling it the “10k for 10k Challenge” and offering a $10,000 donation in support of the Neighborhood Longhorns Program (NLP). The fans did their part–setting a new attendance record of 10,763 for the women’s team in Moody Center. Coach Schaefer found a few more donors to chip in as well, presenting a postgame check presentation to NLP for $156,000, a record donation amount for the program.

NLP Chairman Ken Capps, BJ ’82, Life Member, pictured far left, says every dollar raised will support programs for the 5,000 underserved elementary school students in the Austin-area that NLP serves. This is Coach Schaefer’s second year in a row to raise funds for NLP. More info can be found on their site at neighborhoodlonghorns.com.
