Longhorn Legend Julieta García Earns Presidential Medal of Freedom
Former president of The University of Texas at Brownsville Dr. Julieta García, PhD ’76, Life Member, Distinguished Alumna, earned the nation’s highest civilian honor, The Presidential Medal of Freedom, for her exemplary contributions to education in the United States. García and a group of community leaders spearheaded the establishment of UT Brownsville, and she was the first Hispanic woman to serve as a college president, earning a spot on Time magazine’s list of best college presidents.
