Longhorn Honored at World War I Centennial Ceremony

Anna Marie Mattson, BA ’75, was a flag-bearer during the World War I Centennial Ceremony at the American Military Cemetery in Suresnes, France, on November 11, 2018. Mattson is president of the Texas Exes France Chapter and was selected in honor of her two uncles, Jake and Cloyd Stevens from Pennsylvania, who both fought in France during the war.

After the ceremony, a wreath from the American University Clubs was laid on the grave of Albert MacDonnell, 1912. He was first lieutenant and served as an aide to major general William H. Johnston, commander of the 91st Division United States Army. MacDonnell was wounded in a German bombardment west of the Meuse River and died in the hospital on December 22, 1918, from complications of his wounds.
