Texas Exes Welcomes 2018 Distinguished Alumni Home to the Forty Acres

Each year, some of UT’s finest alumni return home to the Forty Acres for a weekend to celebrate their accomplishments and receive Texas Exes’ highest honor: the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The annual celebration honors six recipients, and this year’s class includes two top-tier attorneys, a telecommunications magnate, a trailblazing doctor, a renowned business executive, and a Tony Award-winning writer.

On Friday evening, the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center was transformed for the grand affair, as more than 400 Longhorns came back to campus to celebrate over cocktails, dinner, live music, and a moving ceremony broadcast live on Longhorn Network, emceed by Texas Exes Immediate Past President Del Williams, BBA ’83, JD ’85, and featuring remarks from President Gregory L. Fenves.

As the Tower glowed burnt orange in their honor, each recipient took their turn on stage to receive their iconic orange jacket and reflect on the way UT is a part of who they have become. The weekend came to a grand finale on Saturday, when all six Distinguished Alumni walked down the 50-yard line at halftime during the Texas vs. West Virginia game and threw up their horns.

The 2018 recipients are: Robert A. Estrada, BS ’69, JD ’83, Life Member; R. Steven Hicks, BA ’72, Life Member; Anitha Mitchell Logan, BA ’65, Life Member; Richard Warren Mithoff, BBA ’68, JD ’71, Life Member; William P. O’Hara, BBA ’68, Life Member; Robert Schenkkan, BA ’75, Life Member.
