The Story of the I-Bone: The Option Attack that Almost Was
Joey Lozano Jr., BJ ’80, Life Member, appeared on the weekly TV show @KVUESports to discuss the I-bone offense he developed along with Jim Smith, a former scout team QB who ran the wishbone at Texas A&M.
The pair co-authored two books and pitched the concept to nearby schools in 1984. One coach who offered his thanks but ultimately declined was Oklahoma’s Barry Switzer. The Sooners were off to a fast start that that season after hiring a young Mack Brown that same year to instill life in their own wishbone attack. See the full video here [Vimeo].
