UT Ranked 30th in World by U.S. News
Ranking universities is a complicated and sometimes controversial business. Over the years, colleges have come to be ranked on an ever-expanding variety of criteria by publications hoping to generate buzz. Now a simple Google search can tell you which universities are the healthiest, most inventive, and even the happiest.
When it comes to picking the best overall universities in the world, however, the field has been dominated by only a few big names. Now, U.S. News and World Report, one the biggest names in college rankings, has jumped into the global rankings business—and their inaugural list puts UT at 30th in the world.
According to U.S News, the Global University Rankings measure schools on academic research and reputation. The list also puts UT at 23rd among US universities and 10th among US public universities.
“This ranking confirms what we see on our campus every day: outstanding faculty teaching world-class students. We say, ‘What starts here changes the world.’ The world is noticing,” UT president Bill Powers said in a statement.
Of course, not everyone will agree with the ranking. We just hope that discussion stays civil. UT is, after all, the 4th most politically diverse university in the country.
