Longhorn Cory Joseph Helps Spurs Blow Out Thunder
Danny Green was the star last night in the Spurs’ blowout win against the Thunder, hitting 7 threes in an absolute pummeling of a game. The 112-77 win puts the Spurs up 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals as the series now shifts back to Oklahoma City.
The rout paved the way for nine minutes on the floor for Longhorn Cory Joseph, ’11, tied for the longest he’s been on the court in almost a month, when he almost cracked double-digit minutes on April 23 in a 21-point loss to the Mavericks during the opening round of the playoffs.
Joseph hit 3-of-4 shots attempted, including a trey, and finished with a +/- of 7. The other former Longhorn basketball player on the court, Kevin Durant, ’07, had an off night, shooting 37.5 percent from the floor and finishing with a +/- of -26.
Being as impartial as possible, we have to root for blowouts for the remainder of this series to maximize Longhorn time on the court, as it seems that Joseph only gets minutes on the insanely deep Spurs when they are either losing by a lot or blowing out the other team, and Durant, the league’s MVP, will play no matter what.
Either way this series shakes out, Longhorn fans can look forward to one Texas player in the NBA Finals.
