What’s In
Chick-fil-A
Yes, students have been satisfying their Chick-fil-A cravings for some time now at the locations in the Union and Student Activity Center, but they’ve never experienced the fast-food chain quite like this. The first of its kind in Austin, this downtown Chick-fil-A—located at the intersection of MLK and San Antonio—features a double drive-thru with a conveyor system, patio-covered outdoor seating, and a walk-up window for ordering. At the store’s grand opening in June, more than 100 Austinites and Longhorns lined up for the chance to win free Chick-fil-A for a year.
What’s Out
Toy Joy
Longhorns now have to make a trip downtown to purchase rubber duckies, stick-on handlebar mustaches, and something called unicorn farts. A staple on Guadalupe for nearly two decades, popular novelty store Toy Joy moved to its new home in the Second Street District, right underneath the Violet Crown Cinema, in June. Toy Joy’s owners point to limited parking as a major reason for the move. Women’s fashion boutique Langford Market opened its doors in Toy Joy’s colorful and iconic former home earlier this month.
