Helping Hands: Longhorn Pride Gets Dialed Up a Notch

Could your “hook ’em” use some help? A pair of Longhorn entrepreneurs has developed a fresh twist on an old tradition: Hand Horns, a portable set of horns that could revolutionize the way Texas fans show their pride.

Hand Horns are exactly what they sound like—a pair of small, foam horns that you wear on your fingers. They’re a sleek, simple cheering implement, designed to fit into your pocket or purse.

These little finger puppets will surely take your UT fan-ship to new heights on gamedays—but that’s not all. They even double as tasteful home decor. Hand Horns LLC offers the Hand Horns Rack Plaque, a handmade wooden and faux cowhide base that enables you to proudly display your Hand Horns year-round.

The inspiration for the idea came when four friends, all lifelong UT fans, decided that “a university as unique as UT deserves unique cheering implements.” As co-creator Eric Marfin, BA ’08, Life Member, puts it: “The #1 foam fingers just don’t adequately dignify UT.”

Hand Horns aren’t your typical collegiate gear, and its co-creators aren’t your average business partners. Marfin and his wife, Lauren Owens, BA ’08, met as juniors at The University of Texas, graduated in 2008, and haven’t left each others’ sides since. The couple married last Saturday in the University Christian Church on campus, and the reception was held at the Touchdown Club in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

“We met on campus, I proposed on campus, so we decided to round the bases completely and get married here, too,” Marfin jokes. “All of this is planned to coincide together so we can be in serious contention for Biggest UT Fans Ever.”

If such a list exists, we’re sure they’re towards the top.
