Longhorn Power Couple Scores Reality Show
Sanya Richards-Ross is accustomed to the spotlight: she was a NCAA national champion in the 400 meters, she’s sprinted for five medals in three Olympics, and she’s scheduled to deliver her first commencement speech to Texas’ graduating class of 2013 in May.
But her latest move will mean unprecedented face-time for the Texas grad—she’s agreed to star in her own WE tv reality show, Glam & Gold.
Filming has already commenced in Austin and Jacksonville, where her husband and fellow Longhorn Aaron Ross—a two-time Super Bowl champion—plays defensive back for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. The show will revolve around the couple’s daily life, from their public appearances to time at home.
Richards-Ross’ fast-paced lifestyle extends well beyond the track, and her family provides more than just moral support. Her father Archie is her manager, her mother Sharon is her agent, her cousin Yolandae is both her publicist and stylist, and her sister Shari runs the Hair Clinic (Richards-Ross’ hair salon in Austin).
Glam & Gold won’t be the Richards-Ross’ family’s first appearance on WE tv. Today marks the third anniversary of their wedding, which was featured on the network’s Platinum Weddings. Richards-Ross has twice the reason to celebrate the date—Feb. 26th is also her birthday.
The series is produced by Good Clean Fun, LLC., and should provide a wholesome alternative to exploitative reality TV shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Jersey Shore. “We are thrilled to have Sanya and Aaron join the WE tv family this summer,” said Lauren Gellert, WE tv’s SVP of production & development, in a press release. “Sanya is incredible. She’s a strong, independent, stylish woman, who’s successful in career, marriage, and family.”
An excited Richards-Ross broke the news via Twitter earlier this week:
Glam & Gold is slated to premiere in the summer of 2013.
