Suspect Pulls Campus Fire Alarms; No Emergency Confirmed

This afternoon, Twitter was aflutter with news that not one, but eight buildings’ fire alarms were set off on the Forty Acres. Jester Center, the Norman Hackerman Building, and Robert Lee Moore Hall were among those evacuated.

But in case you started worrying about your student or fellow students, it looks like you can breathe a bit easier for the moment. University spokeswoman Cynthia Posey confirms the multiple evacuations, but says there is no substantiated campus emergency.

Posey says the University Police Department is searching for a suspect, whom they believe was going around pulling the fire alarms. The suspect is believed to be a white or Hispanic male in his 30s; around 6 feet tall; 180 pounds; short black hair. He was last seen wearing a religious necklace, white T-shirt, and dark shorts.

Anyone with information should call UTPD at 512-471-4441.
