Phoenix Chapter Hangs With Vince
It started with a casual question.
“By the way, today I met some football player who said he played for the University of Texas, but I doubt you’ve ever heard of him. Vince Young ring a bell?”
After picking his jaw up from the ground, Texas Exes Phoenix Chapter member Jeremy Hall saw an opportunity, and he contacted Vince Young’s agent to ask if Vince could visit the chapter.
Vince was in Scottsdale, Ariz., training with the Arizona Cardinals. Next weekend, he’ll tie the knot in Cabo with his high school sweetheart. But he wasn’t too busy with wedding preparations to make time for some Texas Exes.
Board member Emerald Greig sent out a Facebook invite, and less than 24 hours later, 50 Phoenix Chapter regulars gathered at the resort where Vince and his former Longhorn teammate, Selvin Young (no relation), were staying.
“This was an incredible treat for us,” Greig says. “All of us are the tried and true Texas Exes who go to every gamewatch and contribute to the scholarship fund each year.”
Both Vince and Selvin autographed memorabilia, posed for pictures, learned about the Phoenix Chapter’s scholarship fund and even allowed a few phone calls to friends who couldn’t make it to the last-minute meet-and-greet.
“They were such good sports, and you could tell they were feeling the love,” Greig says.
