U.K. Alumni Rally for Coat Drive

London winters can be a bit chilly—especially for Texans used to mild weather.

So you might suspect that asking a group of UT alumni to give up their coats during February in England wouldn’t go over so well.

You’d be wrong. As part of the huge service initiative Texas Exes Care About The Project, the U.K. Chapter is holding a coat drive to benefit Oxfam International.

About 10 alums gathered last week at the Texas Embassy, a Tex-Mex cantina in Trafalgar Square. A few have already donated coats, while others discussed plans to donate whatever they can spare.

“Not everyone has coats to donate,” says chapter president Carra Kane, “especially because many of us moved here with a small wardrobe. But several people said they were inspired to clean out their closets and donate other items as well.”
