Where Leaders Come From (Hint: Often UT)

Looking beyond the Ivy League

In this prestige-obsessed society, some of our country’s leaders are educated at Ivy League schools.

But it pays to remember that many more are not.

The University of Texas turns out its share of leaders, especially in the business world and the military.

Take a look at this graph, prepared and published by Slate. UT and the University of Virginia are the only specific public schools with large enough numbers to cite specifically in different areas of leadership.

(You’ll spy thinner but still detectable burnt-orange stripes in the House of Representatives and Senate categories, too.)
