Halloween With Harry: UT Holds Potterhead Fest [Watch]

The 40 Acres got a bit more magical yesterday, as wizard-mania overtook the Student Activity Center for Harry Potter Fest 2011.

While it isn’t exactly Hogwarts, the SAC played host to many cloaked wizards—er, Longhorns—during the all-day fest, which offered everything from butterbeer potion-making classes to a tri-wizard maze and dark mark temporary tattoos.

Though Potterheads celebrated All Hallows Eve making faces in photobooths, dominating in Harry Potter trivia contests, and dancing the night away at the “Yule Ball,” it wasn’t all fun and games.

The Defense Against the Dark Campus Arts class, named for a course characters take in the popular book series, offered drunk driving demonstrations and Rape Aggression Defense instruction by UTPD officers—proof that you can learn and still have a bloody good time doing it.

“It’s a fun way to relax and celebrate Harry Potter,” advertising senior Martin Munoz told the Daily Texan. “Now that the Harry Potter books and movies are over, it’s a great way to keep it alive.”
