Fozzy Whittaker Named to Community of Champions
Senior running back Fozzy Whittaker may be out for the season with a knee injury, but he’s still racking up accolades off the field.
Whittaker was named to the Big 12 Community of Champions for this fall, the Big 12 announced today.
Each school in the Big 12 names one honoree for the award in the fall, winter, and spring.
Whittaker was selected for his athletic performance, his academic excellence (after earning a bachelor’s in corporate communications last year, he’s now working on a master’s in kinesiology), and his devotion to community service. He volunteers at Dell Children’s Hospital and with UT’s Orange Santa holiday gift drive.
He led the NCAA in kickoff return average (42.4) before getting injured and became just the fifth player in school history to score a rushing, receiving and kickoff/punt return for a touchdown in the same season. He still leads the Longhorns with nine touchdowns.
