2011 Distinguished Alumnus Awards: Jane Chesnutt [Watch]

It’s hard to imagine a time when it wasn’t socially accepted to talk about breast cancer or AIDS. But under the leadership of Jane Chesnutt, BJ ’73, Woman’s Day magazine tackled tough issues—such as heart disease in women—long before they were mainstream.

On Oct. 14, the volunteer, activist, and former editor-in-chief received, along with five others, UT’s highest honor: the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Watch Chesnutt’s story of rising from a tiny Texas town to the rarefied heights of New York City here.
