Horns’ Blaire Luna Pitches Perfect Game

Sophomore pitcher Blaire LunaConsider it one for the history books. Sophomore pitcher Blaire Luna threw the first perfect game of her career last night against the normally big-hitting and previously unbeaten Washington Huskies.

By the time the game was called on the run-rule, the scoreboard read 12-0 and the No. 12 Horns (21-3) had humbled the No. 4 Huskies.

Luna (13-2) was sensational. She fanned seven batters the first time through the order against a team that came in batting .406.

Not one Huskies batter all night even made it on base.

Freshman shortstop Taylor Thom and sophomore leftfielder Torie Schmidt contributed three hits each.

Thom, senior catcher Amy Hooks, junior third baseman Nadia Taylor, and freshman pinch hitter Karina Scott each connected for a homer in the win.

In the third inning alone, Texas sent 10 runners to home plate.

Texas will try to build on last night’s dominating win today against Fresno State.

First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m. Central. Hook ’em!
