Texas Volleyball Rakes In Six Big 12 Conference Awards
Texas volleyball has become synonymous with All-Big 12, and this year is no different.
Senior All-American Juliann Faucette has been named the Big 12 Player of the Year and first team All-Big 12, along with junior middle blocker Rachel Adams.
Senior Jennifer Doris and junior Amber Roberson were named Honorable Mention All-Big 12.
And Head Coach Jerritt Elliott, who has in his 10 years at Texas completely turned the program around, won his third Big 12 Coach of the Year award, sharing this one with Nebraska coach John Cook.
What started off as a rough year for the Horns, with early losses to Stanford, Florida, and Texas A&M and a rash of injuries to key players, has turned out to be a banner season — so far.
Heading into the NCAA tournament, with the ninth overall seed and a new ranking that puts them at No. 6 in the country, the Horns are on a gritty 15-match win streak.
Faucette, who was also the preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, has been a force all year, leading the team in kills, aces, and solo blocks. She and Adams were unanimous All-Big 12 selections.
This weekend, Texas hosts the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament at Gregory Gym. They face UTSA in the first round on Friday at 6:30 p.m. If they win, they play the winner of UCLA and American, Saturday at 6:30.
