Everything You Need To Know About Texas Exes Tailgating

That magical time of year has arrived in Austin — football gameday.

Football has always been a big deal for the Texas Longhorns. Students and alumni have been filling up Texas Memorial Stadium since it was dedicated on Thanksgiving Day in 1924, when this photo was taken. (You can see the Tower’s predecessor Old Main in the background.)

The scenery may have changed — and the size of the stadium — but the band still thrills at halftime and the team still thrives off the energy of the crowd.

The Alumni Center will be full of that fan energy tomorrow at the Biggest Tailgate in Texas, beginning at 3 p.m. Our big TVs, clean bathrooms, cold beer, and air conditioning will be around as normal, but Texas Exes will get a few extra perks at this tailgate, too.

In honor of the Texas Exes’ 125th anniversary this year, 2,500 cupcakes will be given out and 1,000 special Longhorn koozies will be passed around to keep your drinks cold.

Make sure not to forget your membership card or Life Member keychain to gain access into the tailgate. But if you do — don’t worry. We can look you up at one of our membership service stations.

Here are a few other things to remember as you head to the Forty Acres tomorrow:

  • The Texas Exes tailgate will open three hours prior to kickoff, at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
  • It is an exclusive benefit for members of the Texas Exes and their guests.
  • Members are allowed one guest free of charge (plus any children 18 and under).
  • Additional guests are welcome for $5 each, if accompanied by a member.
  • No drinks are allowed to be brought in and alcohol must be consumed on Alumni Center grounds.
  • All alcohol sales will cease at the end of the third quarter.
  • A ticket service is available for anyone wishing to purchase game tickets (up to four). Life Members and Associate Life Members have access for the first two hours and annual members beginning at 5 p.m.

Have other questions? Check out our Gameday Central for everything you want to know about the Biggest Tailgate in Texas. We have recently launched a mobile version of TexasExes.org, so you can browse from your phone on gameday if you’re lost or have questions.

To get pumped up for the game, take a peek at gamedays past, including the story of Bevo I, at UT History Central’s historic photos.

Then memorialize your own gameday experience this weekend and send your photos to Alcalde assistant editor Rebecca Fontenot at fontenot@alumni.utexas.edu.

Go Horns!
