Texas alumni were busy on Comedy Central this week talking with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Wednesday night on the Daily Show, anthropologist and geneticist Spencer Wells, BS '88, chatted it up with Stewart about his new book, Pandora's Seed, which discusses whether the sedentary lifestyle we've become accustomed to has made us slow, fat, and miserable. Wells certainly thinks so.
Then, last night Alan Bean, BS '55, was on the Colbert Report showing off his artwork. Bean is a former astronaut and the fourth man to walk on the moon. And the first man to paint with the moon.
Yes, with. His art is known for depicting space, but his big appeal is the fact that he is the only artist in the world who puts actual moon dust in his paintings. He still has parts of the spacesuit he wore and extracts from them small samples of space dust that he then adds to his collection.
