UT Alum Robert Mihovil Releases DVD Of Ike Photography

Sixteen months after Hurricane Ike struck Galveston, photographer Robert Mihovil, BJ ’80, reports that the island is still ever-so-slowly rebuilding.

Mihovil took more than 3,000 photos of the island in the aftermath of the storm. His photo essay, “Eyes of the Storm,” was the Alcalde‘s cover story for May/June 2009. Now he’s releasing a DVD of his finest images called “Ike: The Aftermath.”

If you’re in Galveston Saturday, stop by his gallery (2326 Strand Street) for a champagne reception from 6 to 9 p.m.

In addition to the DVD release, Mihovil has more to toast: contractors, he says, just began work this week on the ruined bottom floor of his house. Here’s to his recovery, and to the rest of the island’s.
