Noooo! Aggies Deform Longhorn

We don’t know the whole story, but the photo itself is enough to get us steaming mad.

An Aggie alum (with the help of, by the looks of it, his once-innocent child) has been raising a Longhorn whose proud horns turn down.

This was achieved, reportedly, by weighing down the horns gradually over time.

Word on the sports message boards is that this poor animal will make his public debut during the halftime show of the final Texas-A&M Thanksgiving Day game, walking out on the 50-yard line.

Maybe we should call PETA and put a stop to this right now? Surely there are laws against it…

If not, let’s at least brace ourselves.

    Seriously aTm?

    • Bill says:

Please tell me that you have a better source for this article than hornfans.com, who probably go it off of TexAgs.com.

      • Brittany says:

I think this is the real issue here. Has this story even been verified? I think it’s possible somebody from aTm did this to the cow. However, I do not think we will be seeing this animal on the football field. I would be willing to be bet that was never even an option.

    • TexAgLaw says:

It may appear as if it is but this in fact is actually not cruel at all. The steer would not have felt this in any way shape or form or even known that his horns were being weighed down at all. The sheer weight of the horns on his head would conceal the minute weight need to tip his horns down at an early age. In fact, it could be argued that due to the simply gravity of things, its actually lighter on the longhorn now as a result of his horns being tipped down that if they were to be normal and spiral upward. Just some words for thought

      • just saying says:

you, my friend, are a moron

      • D says:

How is it that, due to the “simply gravity of things,” its actually lighter because they’re tipped down? Where did the weight go?

It could be argued that, you’re right, but it’d be wrong.

        • Joshua says:

Hold your hands over your head for 5 minutes and you will understand gravity and be appreciative your arms hang down to your side.

          • Ian Reese says:

Hey idiots weigh your ears down till they look like that and tell me how it feels. Horns grow upward therefore naturally it wouldn’t be harmful to a living being considering it body was designed that way jackass.

          • James says:

You sir are an idiot. Your arms do not get tired because of gravity; it has to do with muscle physiology.

          • Aaron says:

That’s a poor analogy. We have to use shoulder muscles to hold our arms above our head; bulls obviously don’t have to do the same for their horns. The weight carried by the bull’s neck is the same whether it’s horns are upright or downturned.

          • K says:

hands have muscles that get tired idiot. horns don’t

          • Dan says:

Does your body get heavier when you raise your arms and then get lighter when you let them rest at your side? Might want to rethink that analogy.

        • Amos says:

It’s not that they are tipped down that lessens the weight, it’s the change in shape and positioning in relation to the longhorns head.

          • LAM says:

Actually, horns grow at all different angles. Longhorns can actually turn their horns around by hitting them against things like hay rings, and they go on living life like nothing happened. I think that to that extent this is ridiculous, but it probably doesn’t affect the longhorn at all.

          • Gobe says:

            Yes, thats how birds fly.

      • hmmmm says:

yes! and with just a small bit of pressure at birth and continual banding during every growth spurt you can shape a humans head to look like a cone. Better yet, with a few relatively painless breaks in their femurs you can make it look like their feet grew on backwards.

        • Texas longhorns vs. longhorns says:

There is a difference between “Texas” longhorns and longhorns in general. Texas longhorns typically have horns that grow up and away from their head. This is due to generations of breeding. Whereas longhorns have horns that can grow down like the steer in this picture. The difference is this guy took a “Texas” longhorn and made its horns grow down. In reality the steer will probably have an easier time not catching its horns on every branch it passes.

      • to says:

I am just curious on how can aggie law allows this guy into the school, they should even stick with farming rather than focus on building other departments, as we can see its worthless.

        • Christine Mayers says:

Why don’t you do some research before making yourself look stupid. There is no law school at A&M.

          • meh says:

“to” meant the policies and regulations at A&M. maybe they should form an elementary department at A&M for incoming students to learn basic reading and comprehension skills.

        • Ashley says:

Who needs basic reading and comprehension skills? How about some basic sentence composition skills. What the heck does “on how can aggie law allows” mean? That’s about three attempts at a coherent statement combined into one atrocity. “They should even stick with farming…”? Do I even need to comment on this?
You shouldn’t be so hard on Christine for her “basic reading and comprehension skills,” because it’s not like she had a whole lot to work from in the first place.

        • Aggie says:

          Just food for thought…
Farming is not worthless. Without agriculture you would be naked and hungry. Also, not all Aggies study agriculture so it’s ignorant to suggest every Aggie is concerned with farming.

      • Austin says:

Since when does gravity care which direction the horns are facing? I thought it was based of the mass of the object and the gravitational constant.

        • ct says:

I could maybe understand if he meant “center of gravity” that it would be easier to maneuver his head but his comment is still altogether incomprehensible. Aggies continually try to draw Longhorns into arguments and tirades but they always end up appearing desperate and pitiful.

Plus, I thought it was “saw ‘em off” not “bend them downward gradually over time”

          • DebOwl says:

ct – It was your last comment that made me double over with laughter!! Try working “bend them downward gradually over time” into the Aggie War Hymn in place of the words “saw varsity’s horns off”!!! Grab some friends and have them sway with you….you’ll all be laughing your heads off!!

Texas Fight, Texas Fight…and it’s goodbye to A&M…..
Marven K. Aggie, would you please go now!!

      • sam says:

Your grammar and logic are awful. Loser.

      • marilyn says:

So you say…not cruel now, what happens when those horns grow another foot or so, and they will! What idiot would purposely deform an animal for the sake of boasting a rivalry? And how can even A and M support that by placing him on the field? OUTRAGE!!!

      • David says:

        that’s an aggie for you

      • Mark says:

Did you ever take a physics class? Seriously

      • AgGurl says:

All that don’t know TexAgLaw is correct. Do your research, this was a common thing in agriculture for Hereford bulls to have done to keep from injuring other herd members. Fact: it is NOT cruelty.

        • Amy says:

I’m a UT Longhorn fan and my husband grew up on a cattle ranch. AgGurl is correct about this being a fact. Although I hate to think of Bevo looking this way, there was a specific need for certain breeds, not just Longhorns, to have this “done.”

      • Hoping TexAgLaw is not an actual lawyer says:

The horns are still attached to its head, no matter which way they are pointing they are still weighing it’s head down, which still puts the same strain on the neck. So “due to the simply gravity of things” it being lighter makes no sense. Texas A&M was obviously good to you.

      • Dave says:

Lighter because they’re tilting down? TexAgLaw, that statement was so moronic I can’t figure out if you’re being sarcastic or not. The horns weigh the same no matter what direction they point, so no they do not become lighter. And Joshua your comparison is completely retarded. Just some words for thought

      • Jerry says:

You may know all about sheep, but clearly know nothing about longhorns. For many years people said veal wasn’t cruel. So, stop deluding yourself aggie.

      • Go Fuck Another Sheep Aggie says:

Hey DUMBSHIT, that is why you are an aggie! What are the first words an aggie grad says to his Longhorn boss in the workplace…..? “Did you say you like 2 creamers in your coffee or 3″? POOR AGGIES!!!!!

        • Lolumad says:

YEAH! I’m gonna throw some !!!’s in there. And then maybe some …’s and then hit them with some CAPS LOCK!!!! They are all so jelly of my manager position at Starbucks. POOR AGGIES!!!!

        • Kandi says:

What a classy name you have. I’ll take 2 cream, one sugar.

        • JustAnotherCollegeStudent says:

I had faith in the over all intelligence and maturity levels of this discussion, until I reached this comment. Insulting, or correcting, someone with facts and college worthy thinking would have been much more beneficial to your goal rather than mashing on the keyboard like a hormonal high school student.

Also, I’d like to second the “classy name” comment made by Kandi.

        • John says:

          POOOOOOOR t-sips!

        • steve says:

Well I went to Rice. So while he gets my coffee you can go get my lunch.

      • hookemtank says:

I went to Africa this past summer and had to shoot an oryx because the horns were pointing down and it couldn’t drink from the water hole so don’t try and justify this… That being said, this is probably a fake picture but if it isn’t the entire Aggie fan base should be ashamed that they could be so consumed in their hatred for another team that they would do something like this. This is just another example of why many Texas fans are excited that they never have to deal with A&M fans again. I am an avid hunter and, in no way, an animal activist but I can only hope that all h.e.l.l breaks loose when A&M unveils this and PETA jumps all over them

      • Josh says:

I think what you mean is that there is less torque on the bull. While the mass is the same, the force due to gravity acting on the center of mass is closer to the pivot point(the neck)so it is easier to move the whole head.

      • Amos says:

        Kudos TexAgLaw

      • texastre says:

While the actual process of slowly bending the horns did not actually hurt the animal, the fact that it now has it horns encircling it’s head probably makes it a little difficult for the longhorn to, oh, I don’t know, eat from a trough, like most cattle occasionally do. And the longhorn probably won’t feel great when they have to continaully sand down or cut the tips off the horns to keep them from growing into it’s face. Look, I know we probably do a lot worse to lots of other farm animals all over the country, but to showcase it with pride, especially for an ag school, is pretty ignorant if you ask me. Just knit a new sweater for Lassie with some anti-longhorn message on it and leave the cattle alone. And the fact that some poor Aggie Corp member’s date to the UT game now has deformed horns is the biggest crime of all.

      • Are you kidding me. The minute difference of the gravity force from the horns being 1 to 2 feet different in distance from ground is meaningless. It is cruel because longhorns are not normally like that. How about I weigh down your ears or nuts while you are young and cant really tell? The gravity comment is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard. “it may even be easier”. Are you kidding me.

        • Mathew says:

          OH?
Y’all castrated Bevo, so I don’t see how this is any more cruel than that.
I’ll take weights around my nuts over having them banded any day of the week.

      • Crystal says:

Thank you for clearing that up. It is a practice that some ranchers use to make it safer to work with cattle with horns. Some say its more humane than cutting them off. Nothing wrong with it from my viewpoint.

      • Becky Rus says:

You sir, are correct in your explanation, This animal was not harmed in any way, by adding Horn weights to his horns. this is done on a regular basis in the Hereford Cattle Association, as it has been considered a standard in that cattle breed. The horn weight at most weighed 1 1/2#, nothing more, and are only left on the animal a short time until the horns start a downward turn, then taking off, Nature takes over, and the horns continue down, That steer actually is now able to eat more easily, walk through gates, with less trauma to his neck, as they must turn their head almost 180 degrees in some cases to maneuver around. The steer appears to be in excellent health, Hooves are trimmed, I would say he has been taken care of well.

      • Barb says:

They weigh the same amount whether they point up or down.

      • You are pathetic says:

You’ll think not cruel, moron, when the horn actually grows into the face.
We had to cut those when they got dangerously close to the face and an aggy should know that.

    • bob says:

I’m sure its fine. It looks healthy to me. As an Aggie though, I hope to God that thing doesn’t get used for half time. It is stupid to try and get a rise out of someone like that.

    • A&M FOR LIFE says:

hahah oh man i love this!!!! FUCK ALL YOU HORN FANS GIG EM AGGIES!!!!!

      • A&M FOR LIFE = a sad life says:

I’m glad all you ignorant inbred redneck hillbillies will no longer be a part of the Big 12

        • Cole says:

Please ignore that guy(A&M for life). Im an aggie, and i honestly am sad we are losing the rivalry. I cant say im exactly proud of the person who did this, and in no way support.

        • CQ says:

So glad to get a way from your t-shirt fans and lack of intelligence. You’re just jealous your stuck here…

      • J Barnett says:

You poor excuse for a human. You are so pathetic, seriously. God help us, if atm produces people like you on a regular basis.

    • KK says:

ENGLISH LONGHORN. Look it up! Oh wait, that would mean blame can’t be placed on “cruel” Aggies. Damn.

    • StupidAss AggiesAndLonghornFans says:

Before you read anything else you should google “English Longhorn.” Once you do that you may continue to read the rest of the following posts below. You will then realize that everyone who posted on this article is an IDIOT!!! Oh and BOOMER SOONER!

    • Kyle says:

I just want to put out there that i know the family and this steer is better taken care of than bevo himself. Putting weights on steers and bulls is a regular practice and does not harm the animal at all. If you’re next reason for animal cruelty is that the animal can’t eat off the ground..no worries you can prolly feed him out of your hand…ut fans get a sense of humor.
      Thank you

  2. John Adams says:

    Funny. Idiotic. Extreme. Cruel. Pathetic.
These are just some of the words that come to mind when I look at this picture. It’s a good thing that their main rival is not Colorado State. Have you seen what Aggies do to sheep?

  3. Valerie says:

Cruelty to animals… No matter if it’s because the longhorn is our mascot or not!

    • Hooper says:

Eh. I bleed orange through and through but by using words like Peta and Animal Cruelty, you make our school like the liberal homos they like to stereotype us as… Let them just look like assholes

      • AK says:

“Liberal homos”… are you serious? first of all why would you act as though calling someone homosexual is a pejorative statement? Second of all, if anything its people like you who give Longhorns a bad name by making us all sound like ignorant, backwoods, bigots. Next time, think before you speak.

        • Lolumad says:

Actually, as an Aggie I kind of like Hooper. He sums up how the rest of the state feels about TU. Mention the word homo and a fellow longhorn goes up in arms, mention sheep sex and that’s OK though right? Obviously sheep jokes don’t make you look like an ignorant bigot.

          • DebOwl says:

Um, Lolumad, don’t speak for the rest of the state!!

What Aggies don’t realize is that everyone outside the cultish and narrow minded borders of college station considers the whole bunch of you to be absurd. No one understands your absolute and sheer obsession with The University of Texas!!

Be proud of your own school. Why all this nonsense about another university – especially one that seems not to care if you even exist!

And you all look so foolish because you can’t even call the school but it correct acronym “UT”….saying “tu” doesn’t hurt Longhorns’ feelings, it make you look very insecure.

          • Fuck TU says:

tu is not supposed to offend longhorns debowl aggies say tu because you cant be the univeristy of texas if you werent the first university in texas…

          • SEC SEC SEC says:

Fuck TU, you could not be more wrong. TU is used by every Aggy to insult UT and that’s all you guys live for proven pretty much by the name you have chosen for your loser self.

  4. Larry Anglin says:

Horn weights are very commonly used on longhorns, Bevo most likely had them too. They are used to make the horns grow out instead of up and then are removed to allow the horns to grow up. There are also weights used to introduce a twist in the horn growth. You can buy horn weights on line: http://livestockconcepts.com/dehorning/654-horn-weights-pair.html.

  5. Nichole says:

That makes me sick! I am only a Texas fan by association, but certainly not an Aggie fan bc of things like this. How disgusting, and how cruel to an animal who doesnt even know what it means or stands for.

    • F says:

It’s funny that you say that because you have no idea how that animal actually got that way. I highly doubt that this is actually an animal cruelty situation. The article even states that the writer has no idea how that happened or where this photo was taken.

    • Jenn says:

So, this is more cruel than castration and weekly sedation?

  6. Yolanda Flores says:

This is a perfect example of why I will not miss Texas A&M and I hope that the University of Texas will not book any games with this school’s team.

    • i hate people named yolanda says:

haha grow up and stop being such a negative nancy… its funny and the rivalry is great.

i guess what I’m trying to say is shut up

      • I hate people that hate people named Yolanda says:

The SEC, while beating your asses weekly, will also learn to hate you and your cult.

  7. Tim Taliaferro says:

This is just sick. If someone did anything even remotely like this to the Aggie dog they would raise holy hell.

    • Christine Mayers says:

You do realize that’s not actually Bevo, no? That’d be like you getting any random collie off the street and shaving it. You can rest assured that we would not really care.

      • Christine is an idiot says:

Yeah, but shaving a collie isn’t a permanent deformity you inbred fool. That comparison has no merit or bearing in this situation, they are two completely different things.

        • Christine Mayer says:

I hope you don’t kiss your mother with that mouth. The fact is that the bent horns are not in any way a hindrance to this beast’s way of life. He is still capable of eating, drinking, etc. Just because you don’t understand the way that the agricultural world works does not make me an inbred fool. By the time this steer reaches 4 years old, his horns will be 95% or so done growing. If he is at that age, they clearly do not lose a problem. If they continue to grow, they can be cut down. But I understand that it’s pointless to discuss that with anyone whose default argument is simply, “you’re an idiot; that’s just not the same.” I understand that hair grows back, yes. But I’m also capable of understanding that this steer has no risk or imposition placed upon it.

          • To all aggies says:

My friend, there is a reason you understand the world of agriculture and nothing else. Look at your degree and where it is from. You truly have no idea about the pain a steer feels when this is done. No I have never done this, but there is no doubting the cruelty behind this situation. If you would like to keep ranting along this message board to defend the inhumane ways of your peers, then by all means go ahead. However, that makes you even more of a hotheaded moron than the person who harmed this regal creature. Have a good time leading an FFA group, and enjoy your lassie dog in the SEC. It would be a crying shave..I mean shame if the bulldog of Georgia decides to eat your lassie, or even the K-9 at Tennessee. Good riddance to you and that ugly maroon, and you will always be in the shadow of your big brother BEVO, horns up or down.

  8. Len Leshin says:

Don’t call PETA. They’re against us even having a real longhorn as a mascot.

  9. John Fred says:

I just have to thank Larry Anglin for responding with actual facts to this story. Placing weight’s on horns is a very common practice, and I am even sure some t.u. ranchers do the same exact thing with other breeds of cattle. It does not harm the animal, just changes the growth pattern of the horn. It bothers me when people with no agricultural background decide to report on an item, just to skew it and allow sensationalists the opportunity to air out their uninformed opinions.

    • Michael says:

I’m sure there was a perfectly rational reason for that rancher to do that to his cattle. Us stoopid teasips just don’t get it, do we? Pathetic. Enjoy zebra-striping some tigers.

      • C says:

“stoopid teasips”… ha! You said it, not us!

      • LHinTX says:

As a Longhorn I am amazed at the stupidity of other Longhorns.
Get real people, it did not hurt the animal in any way. BEVO’s horn were modified in the same maneer and I dont see anyone crying over that.
We could use a little spirit on our side instead of sitting on our rears always poo-pooing others.

      • T says:

Yes, there is a rational reason. Cattle get herded into very small spaces. Horns can be quite painful for the steers (whom had their horns completely clipped” and the heifers. Not to mention quite costly if other cattle are injured. Chutes and corrals are why this is done.

  10. T says:

Are you people retarded? Horn weights are used ALL THE TIME…

  11. Amyadoptee says:

Having lived on various ranches with my ex husband, this doesn’t hurt the animal. No they do not feel pain. Many times, ranches dehorn an animal to protect other livestock as well as human beings who work around them. A horn is similar to a finger nails or hooves on a horse. I am concerned that they are forcing the horns to grow down instead of out. Horns like this tend to grow into the skull of the animal.

  12. Adam says:

As an Aggie, that is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. They sure as hell better not bring that thing out at halftime. Totally moronic.

  13. Tmac says:

Wow, some serious dumbasses on here.

“Animal Cruelty!” morons. How do you think Bevo’s horns are in that shape? WEIGHTS.

Maybe you should learn a bit about the cattle industry before you start spouting off ignorant statements.

    • Jay says:

And perhaps you shouldn’t spout your ignorance by calling other people dumbasses. So what if they didn’t know? How about explaining it calmly so you yourself doesn’t look like a douche.

      -Jay

      • Matthew says:

If they didn’t know, it’s their own fucking fault for spouting off like they did. So yes, they are dumbasses

        • tmac says:

          Exactimundo…

Don’t make biased and obssurd claims based on sh1t you don’t know about, cause that makes you ignorant and, well a dumbass. So yes, every person that posted how this is cruel, ipso facto are dumbasses.

          • Hey douche bag says:

The asshat that did this will feel like a dumbass when he has to cut the horns to keep it from killing the animal.

  14. steve says:

do any of you city folk understand how a bull calf becomes a steer, thus entitling it to be a longhorn steer?

do you think all those steers alongside the road as you drive to the game are somebody’s pets?

  15. Josh says:

There’s a right reason and a wrong reason to use horn weights. Using them to shape the horns so they protect other cattle or ranch-hands is one thing. Using them to deform the horns so far that the animal can’t even put it’s mouth to the ground is another.

I would liken the concept to using braces on a human. The braces are intended to fix an imperfection – not to cause one.

    • sandi says:

This was my concern as well. Will the angle the horns are now bent to, and will continue to grow to, cause this animal to have difficulty eating and drinking?

      • Christine Mayers says:

Judging by the care the animal has already received (he’s used to handling and is not skinny), he’s well taken care of. If something that like were happening, I’m sure that it would be addressed. That animal is that rancher’s investment. He’s not going to let him starve. That’d be a hefty chunk of change down the drain.

    • Nichole09 says:

No where does it say this was not done for those reasons. They could do this to all of them to prevent injury to the rest of the herd and someone decided to take a picture and blow it out of proportion and make it seem like something it’s not.

  16. jacque says:

I go to a&m and trust me we do not go around promoting this kind of sstuff our lives don’t relvolve around long horns but horn weights are actually used more in austin than college station and it wld never happen if it was cruelty to animals as were not fans of t.u. We aren’t jerks to animals so this is not cruel the longhorns just see it that way

  17. a says:

Daaaaaaaaaaaang, they got us. Texas A&M, where obsession knows no bounds.

  18. Coogsrock says:

Wait isn’t the longhorn mascot castrated? How is that not anymore cruel than what this guy did? At least he didn’t cut anything off the damn thing. Seems like you’re being a hypocrite.

  19. Hugh jass says:

I get it, it doesn’t hurt the animal, but it’s pretty humiliating to the animal and I don’t think that’s cool.

  20. Austin says:

Exactly the kind of class we’ve come to reasonably expect from Aggies. It’d be one thing if some loser fan was torturing an animal to get his jollies in sticking it to UT. But that the school is going to have it on display for the Thanksgiving game…pathetic. It’s one thing to have classless fans, another to have a classless institution. A&M crosses that line time and time again.

    • Nat says:

Another examples of them crossing the line?

    • T says:

Seriously? “Word on the sports message boards” is now being regarding as fact? The author needs to do some actual investigative journalism and find out: 1) How the horns got that way and 2) Whether or not this steer will actually be displayed at a game. I thought UT had a journalism school?

    • M says:

Well I can tell you right now that A&M will not let that be on the field. There halftime show is about Tradition and the Aggie Band. They have a hard enough time letting most people got on the field so having a 1000+ pound cow won’t happen!

    • Matthew Keller says:

No where other than in this article does it say it will be brought out at half time. And considering how the article came from the Texas Exs website, how likely is it to be true? As far as an Aggie “obsession” with UT, I see more from UT students on “Aggies this” “Aggies that” than I ever have the reverse on the A&M campus.

    • AggieBizStudent says:

We’re still waiting on an example of the SCHOOL, not a single student “crossing the line”. I believe a statement such as “time and time again” at least calls for a minimum of two instances.

  21. G says:

What are they going to do in the SEC? Kill Auburn’s trees? Oh wait, ‘Bama already did that. SEC and A&M seem to be a good fit: they both seem to care more about comparing themselves to other teams then improving themselves.

  22. Joe says:

I guess we should get a sheepdog and shave it right? Shaving a dog dosen’t really hurt it.

  23. amie says:

I’m sure this doesn’t hurt him (lets hope), but is it keeping him from eating normally or drinking? Does he get the horns stuck in bushes or branches? There is a reason that horns grow upward naturally and not downward. I think this is sad; paint your face, paint your barn, have the school symbol in your corn fields, decorate your childs nursery in school colors…don’t do things to animals. Stupid in my opinion!

    • Matthew says:

They naturally grow upwards so that bulls can kill each other. No other reasons

      • AK says:

your statement is absolutely untrue. when the horns grown down this way they eventually hinder the animals ability to graze and eat, therefore survive. Doing this to the animal was cruel, and ignorant.

    • Christine Mayers says:

looking at what you can see from this picture, he’s clearly had pretty decent nutrition, especially considering this drought, and is obviously accustomed to some human handling. As far as getting stuck, the pen really poses no risk of him getting caught. And they’re not going to really get stuck in a bush unless the rest of him gets stuck, which is more than likely not going to happen. He’s used to them- he’s not going to go dive into shrubs and trees.

  24. Brent says:

I find it extremely comical that the individuals that are most outraged by this practice graduated (or support) a university that has a mascot that was “perfected” by using the same technique. Obession? “Texas Fight! Texas Fight! And it’ goodbye to A&M!” Morons.

  25. Cstat says:

If you think this is cruel (which it is not) you should see how cattle are castrated.

This is just a little excessive but as long as they keep it in good health, there is nothing wrong with it.

  26. Ashley says:

Wait til they see what I do with their little dog.

    • Danny says:

We literally have an army protecting her… it wouldn’t end well for you.

    • Danny says:

We literally have an army protecting her… It would not end well for you. Just saying…

      • Mike says:

Danny, I don’t care how many times you repeat yourself. So long as your army consists of a group of shortbus students trying to get intimate with a sack of doorknobs, nobody has anything to fear from you & yours.

  27. Jared says:

All these posts on here remind me of the value of a good diversified education. The reason a TAMU student did this is because he or she took an animal science class and realized that in no way does this hurt or hinder this animal in any way. This steer doesn’t have feelings and will not need a counselor. While I hope every TAMU game ends up in a loss in the SEC… Please don’t post uneducated responses to a picture of an animal who has been living the good life in College Station like a spoiled pet dog…

  28. Ashley's dad says:

Ashlay – Have I not told you to describe what you do doggie style in public?

  29. Alex says:

Hahahah this is great! Stupid t-sips! Gig Em!

  30. Sam Rhodes says:

This does not in any way represent the actions of an TAMU student. This is probably
some dip-shit farmer and his son. First line of the article, “We don’t know the whole story…”
Just because there is a little kid with a TAMU t-shirt one does not mean he represents the
whole TAMU student body. I understand that a lot of people do not like TAMU and now I understand why, because of stupid redneck farmers and their soon to be stupid redneck farmer sons.

  31. Trey says:

I have no dog in this fight, except as a human being. I am a Red Raider, so there’s no bias here. Leave it to Aggy to deform one of God’s creatures. Especially a majestic creature of Texas, the longhorn. I wonder how they would feel if their little princess dog got her ears clipped, fur shaved off and tail removed? There’s got to be a Longhorn out there as crazy as Harvey Updyke (Bama) – Any takers?

    • anon says:

Um… coming from the school who smeared feces in and on A&M’s football buses… As you can read above, the horns were weighted in the same manner that Bevos horns are weighted during the growth period.

      • Trey says:

In case you don’t keep up with current events, it wasn’t feces. It was fish bait. And it was allegedly done by Aggies. You’re school is truly suffering from little man syndrome. Stop crying and have fun in the SEC – I’m going to love watching every school minus maybe Vandy absolutely demolishing your program. Here’s the good news – you’ll be the second best team in Maroon of the SEC. Do you know how bad you are? You finished 37-32-1 against Texas Tech all-time. We haven’t had a relevant program (ever) until Leach came around.

    • T says:

How do you feel about a longhorn getting it’s balls chopped off? It’s that “deforming one of God’s creatures”?

    • Lolumad says:

Ears clipped, fur shaved, and tail removed. All of these things happen all the time and the animals are still able to live happy, fulfilling lives. Trust me.
Dressing dogs up in Christmas sweaters is more of a crime against humanity than making a bull’s horns grow downwards.

  32. john says:

Isn’t Bevo castrated? How is that not cruelty?

    • Josh says:

…and Reveille is spayed. (Aggie mascot)

Spaying and neutering is standard practice for a live mascot. Deforming them is not.

  33. r Beasley says:

Really is there any proof that any Aggies are/were planning to display this animal anywhere…..? Sounds like t.u. is getting a little nervous about 11.24.11

    • T says:

There is NO PROOF anywhere. ONE person said something about it on a message board and some rookie blogger reported it as fact.

      • r beasley says:

You know, I do not believe I could tell a Happy Longhorn from an Unhappy Longhorn… with that being said this one pictured doesn’t really look abused : ) just saying!

  34. peggy says:

    no longer a fan

  35. aggie says:

You people are idiots. I’m very happy to be an Aggie instead of a pathetic t-sip because you are very uninformed. Being a past ag major from A&M I know that sometimes horns simply grow like that. And we are thankful to be leaving the conference that yall are in. You people just want to pick at something and to anyone who calls rednecks farmers, just remember that that redneck farmer is helping feed over 7 billion people around the world. Do me a favor and get your facts straight, it’s people like yall that get peta involved in these situations and cause farmers and agriculturists problems.

  36. Margaret says:

This is not illegal. The George Ranch does this to all their longhorns so that they don’t kill each other. It is not harmful to the animal in any way.

BTW, I go to the University of Texas at Austin.

  37. T says:

I actually just spoke with a friend of mine that works in coordinating Game Day activities at A&M, and he said this is strictly just an internet rumor and A&M has never had any intention of doing this. This columnist is an idiot for posting “message board rumors” as fact.

  38. Mike says:

Ignorance has a funny affect on people and their opinions. Seeing how this thing happens naturally, it’s interesting that so many people think it qualifies as animal cruelty or are ridiculous enough to believe A&M would actually do this to an animal or bring it on the field at all. Do you really think A&M has been plotting this long enough to raise a bull from birth and do this over a course of years, then actually present “animal cruelty” in front of millions? Give me a break; get off your soap box. A&M doesn’t hate you that much. You’re not that important in the lives of Aggies.

    • caitlin says:

dont worry…we dont care about you either. aggies dont seem to get that we dont watch their games and keep up with their stats to make sure they lost. they also dont seems to notice that ou is our main rival

  39. George says:

Well, it is sad…but what is MORE sad is that the Aggies think they’ll be able to breed off this trait now.

  40. Tom says:

Everyone knows this is CLEARLY Obama’s fault.

  41. jess says:

you morons this is for safety reasons…. please keep austin weird and get a life

  42. jake says:

wow some of you people are ignorant! putting weight on horns do not hurt them. if You want to know what hurts them its dehorning them. horns dont have any nerves in them and they can’t feel anything when u touch them or do anything to them. before you hippies go on here saying stuff do some research first. thanks

  43. Mae says:

    I <3 the comments section.

  44. john says:

You think this cow has it bad? You should check out the poor sheep who are sexually molested daily in College Station.

  45. RV says:

I seriously believe that this can be seen as an illegal actions] for the longhorn cattle is a symbol of Texas itself. This saddens me a lot for this poor animal. I hope something can be done by PETA or another animal rights group to press charges on this cruel and unusual pain put upon this animal.

    • Read above... says:

“Don’t call PETA. They’re against us even having a real longhorn as a mascot.”

“his is not illegal. The George Ranch does this to all their longhorns so that they don’t kill each other. It is not harmful to the animal in any way.

BTW, I go to the University of Texas at Austin.”

    • Christine Mayers says:

This DOES NOT hurt the animal. It’s just like braces, as someone said before. Learn a smidge about the ag industry before you make judgments. A lot of bulls have this technique used on them for the safety of other animals in the pastures and their ranchers. If you don’t like it, go run around in a pasture full of bulls that haven’t had their horns either altered or removed. You might find yourself in favor afterwards. Bottom line is it doesn’t hurt him and it is NOT animal cruelty.

    • That Guy says:

I really hope you’re just trolling. If not, there’s really no hope left in the world.

  46. Pedro Don says:

Let me help you idiots out….

    http://lmgtfy.com/?q=english+longhorn

  47. Brandon says:

@Mike – You are an idiot sir. The aggies decided to leave the conference because they hated being in our shadow all the time. You hate us… we know it, you know it, and the rest of the world knows it. Good luck next year.

    • A says:

The Aggies may hate you, but please, the world does not revolve around you like you think it does. It’s not like they expect to be the best in the SEC next year. The SEC is the dominant conference. The goal is to use that appeal for recruits in Texas and to get more money. They want to improve in the long run. And if the Aggies hated you so much, why did they still want to play you even after leaving the Big 12? It’s Texas who said their non conference games were booked until 2018.

    • AggieBizStudent says:

Actually, this might be news to everyone on this site, but college athletics does not solely revolve around football. While our team might not fair well against the other football teams in the SEC, other sports such as our 3peat NCAA National Champion Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Teams (the first school to complete a triple-double in any sport), Defending National Champion Women’s Basketball team, our newly crowned Big 12 Champion Women’s Soccer team, our underrated Big 12 Champion Equestrian Team, Big 12 Men’s Tennis Champions, and Big 12 Baseball Champions. These were all last season by the way. This move will finally get these sports some competition, so please do not think that we are tired of being in your shadow.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that Aggies are much more sought after for jobs than longhorns. I mean, that is the reason we all go to school right?

  48. SP says:

    I will miss this rivalry.

  49. Hook 'Em says:

The fact that this person took time to do this just goes to show aggies have nothing else better to do, than to worry about UT…pathetic if you ask me.

  50. Steve says:

    tinyurl.com/whatstartsherechangestheworld

  51. IS THIS A JOKE? says:

SOMEONE TELL ME THIS IS A JOKE

WHAT KIND OF IGNORANT FOOL DOES STUPID SHIT LIKE THIS?

  52. Rich says:

Some people here are complete dumb asses!!!
If you want to complain about horn weights, go to every horned cattle rancher who breeds for future herd sires and ask them about horn weights. Then call them inhumane and morons for doing so. Then get you dumb assess slapped off the ranch cause you need a reality check! TU or ATM, quit your bitc*ing about this being cruelty. Read over the comments here, many about BEVO’s horns are true. Weights were used at a young age. So start a blog about being cruel to Bevo as well! There are even many breeds which horns grow down and in… MUCH WORSE NATURALLY THAN THIS… horns are clipped and you move on. Just like nails!

  53. boomersooner says:

lol hey texas – ur all morons. discuss.

  54. Bking says:

You are all idiots. This is a regularly practiced procedure to make bulls and steers less dangerous around people. It makes it so the bull cannot stab a person. It is very common and does not harm the animal at all.

  55. Chase says:

You people are way off base. His horns are pointing down because he’s sad. Give him a back rub and they perk right up!

  56. Longhornssuck says:

The University of Texas sucks ass anyways. All you guys are inbred degenerates anyways. Nice season last year assholes.

  57. Just like an aggie! says:

The president of A&M stated in an article in Texas Monthly that one of the biggest reasons for the move is that they are tired of living in a “big orange shadow.” just saying!

Inhumane or not it will be disrespectful at the least if this is brought out on the field during half-time, But then again why should we be surprised? Aggies have never really been a respectful breed anyways!!

  58. physicsguy says:

    Actually…

The weight of the bent horns are more centralized around the pivot point, the neck. This lowers the total inertia of the head and horns. Ultimately, this means that the bent horns are easier on the neck movement. To prove this… Stand with your arms outstretched and rotate your torso back and forth as quickly as you can. Next, put your hands near your chest and do the same thing. You will find the latter to be much easier on your abdominal muscles.

    -Physics Guy

  59. Colorado Native says:

I love how the comments section is longer than the actual “article” :)

  60. Smarter than everyone else says:

Your all mental…. Fact is if u turn them up, down or put them both on one side they will weigh the same now…. Let’s look at it from a different perspective “children” how will the steer lie down comfortably hmm? It’s clearly arguable that he will not be “uncomfortable due to gravity blah blah blah….. People do the same concept to parts of their bodies and it doesn’t “hurt”… Gaged ears for instance… I don’t nor would I have them but ask anyone with them… They don’t hurt! So shut up And get off that…. However it will cause problems during the time the steer spends lying down… Im gonna have to agree this was no good idea…

  61. Sam_TX says:

We used weights on our bucking bulls all the time. It’s a very common practice. With that being said any story that leads off with “We don’t know the whole story” and uses the word “reportedly” throughout really isn’t really worth reading. Let me guess most of you that think this hurts, embarrasses (that actually made me laugh), or deforms the animal are probably the same people that think that 12oz TBone you ate tonite came from an animal that walked in to the slaughter house and committed suicide or better yet walked in to HEB and fell in to a steak. Please it only takes a second to google, try it.

  62. Homer says:

Aren’t we all burying the lede? An aggy fan spent a boatload of money to aquire, feed, and raise a Longhorn steer just so he/she could weigh his horns down and trot it out on Kyle Field. Isn’t that worthy of pity more than outrage?

  63. Corey Leamon says:

Generic insult to other people!! Rabble rabble!

The internet always brings out the best in people. In any case, an important point is left unsaid. This Aggie family owns and cares for a LONGHORN. I don’t see a Collie in that photo.

A Longhorn, horns up or down, is still a Longhorn with great strength. I wouldn’t mess with one regardless of where the horns pointed. Hook ‘em.

    • Kaylas says:

I agree… Awesome. As much as they hate us, they are still represnting The University of Texas by owning a Longhorn whether the Horns are up or down. Hook ‘em!

  64. This is Ridiculous says:

Ok people, seriously? Some bulls’ horns naturally grow downward just as shown in the picture. If you are offended because a man “reportedly” did this, which in no way hurt the bull, you should do some studying. I don’t even know that much about cattle and I know this.

I have to say, though, I’m not surprised this is on a t-sip website. Just plain ignorance.

  65. Chad says:

Time isn’t wasted when you’re gettin’ wasted

  66. Bevocalhorns says:

To all the collies out there that use tu as an insult you should know that the rest of the world knows that it stands for THE UNIVERSITY and we thank you for the compliment. Also,it seems that everywhere you look there are aggies with longhorns(saw em off) stickers all over their car and now they are going to parade a longhorn around on sacred (in honor of the veterans)Kyle field. This reveals their secret desire to want to walk in our shoes and see what it feels like to be part of a top ranked university and athletic program. I would never dream of putting a collie on anything I own regardless if is defaced or deformed or not. Honestly I get a little confused about their mascot. Are they aggies or collies??? The whole thing is weak if you ask me. The good news is after this year we don’t have to be associated with them any more and they will show the whole country what kind of fine institution they are when they publicly deface our mascot. Go out showing how classy you really are.

    • J says:

Can you please show proof of where it was stated that bringing that animal on Kyle Field is ACTUALLY going to happen? You seem so sure that we are so classless, but the article said they saw it on a sports message board where there is always a bunch of talk going around of fact less information. I can assure you that the administration of TAMU would never allow for that to happen.

    • A says:

this is strictly just an internet rumor and A&M has never had any intention of doing this. This columnist is an idiot for posting “message board rumors” as fact. notice how the first words are “we don’t know the whole story”. please dont be so full of yourself… typical texas fans thinking the whole world loves them. our football this year has been disappointing, yes. but women’s basketball won the national championship last year, the track team in both womens and mens have won the national championship 3 years in a row. women’s soccer just won the big 12. we have things to be proud of, even if it isnt football at the moment

    • j says:

Aww, and we thought y’all didn’t care. :)

  67. David Speer says:

THESE HORNS WILL MESS YOU UP!

  68. Tom says:

Three things: One, that is the dumbest thing ever. Two, we won’t miss them. Three….uh…uh…hmmm…..I can’t remember the third one. Ooops.

  69. Pat Cook says:

What’s up here? Most of this stuff is the silliest drivel I’ve ever seen. It’s not about the horns at all. It is about the obsession some Aggies have to do anything insulting and disrespectful to The University of Texas. It is a complete over the top mania to hate another institution of higher learning. What was done to this longhorn may not have been painful to the animal, but it says a lot about the sick mentality of the persons who squander the precious commodity of time in vain and hurtful activities. You’ve got to be seriously messed up to devote several years to deforming animals in order to insult a rival. That speaks volumes about some Aggie mentalities.

    • g says:

this is one person. do you really think every student here spends years doing the same thing? no. and honestly, no one here is proud of what this person did. dont be so judgmental, not everyone here is the same.

    • Proud Longhorn says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Hook ‘em.

  70. lisa says:

it’s like those women who wear the neck things to make it longer. no pain. or the ear things. no pain.

  71. Gerald says:

These cry-foul comments amuse. Consider the irony here: the Texas Cowboys must pump BEVO full of Acepromazine to get him through a gameday, but the act of weighting this calf’s horntips to grow downward is completely harmless. I have it on good word that this calf is a family pet, completely docile, revered & loved by its owners who allow it to live peaceably in their ranch house front yard. This Aggie longhorn not only lives better than 3/5 of the world’s human population, but is 100% drug free. Contrast that to gameday & public appearance BEVO doped up like a zombie. Every ex-BEVO is put out to pasture (not slaughtered) because all that residual Ace toxin would poison the taco meat.

    • Steve says:

The Cowboys don’t even take care of Bevo. Get your stuff straight. You sir are an idiot.

    • Longhorn Lover says:

Dear Gerald, I think its funny that you try to compare the two. They midly sedate Bevo so that he doesnt hurt any humans but these people weighed down horns to make fun of a school! How in any way shape or form are these the same acts?

      • H says:

How do you even know that? How do you know it’s not just a farmer who happens to be a&m alumni and is using a common practice? Weighing the horns down does not harm the animal. If anything it is you that is hurting an animal. Think of how many times beck has to be injected during his time at ut.

  72. Jacob says:

If we never play aggy again they will have eternal scoreboard. Besides they have the advantage the last 37 years or something like that. They’ve won more national titles in the last 6 months than we’ve beat Big 12 teams in 2 years. Fire Make on the Friday after we good whipped this Thanksgiving.

    Hook ‘em!

  73. Fuck aTm says:

Fuck these stupid morons, I hope the fucking idiot who did this and his retarded ass son get fucking trampled by this animal. What a waste of time, I guess this is what an education in College Station gets you. I think it is funny that one of those sister fucking rednecks from College Station would waste this much time doing this. I guess those idiots didn’t count on the idiots at aTm switching over to the SEC and no longer playing The University of Texas, so I guess now these dumb ass rednecks now have to destroy another animal. Another funny thing is how these dumb ass inbreeders can only reverse the letters UT to TU to try to insult us, like a bunch of dyslexic pole smokers.

    • Thomas says:

This actually demonstrates how good we are at trolling you, and how easily you fall for it, more than anything else. Maybe we wouldn’t waste our time doing stuff like this if we didn’t get such a great reaction from you every time.

    • Fta says:

I don’t understand why you are so emo about Texas A&M but I hope, for your own sake, that you can get over it soon. Thanks and gig’em

  74. James Ekstrom says:

This isn’t cruel at all. Peta wouldn’t care at all about this. This proves that UT belongs in California with the rest of the tree huggers. And I can guarantee this won’t be brought out at halftime. This is just a rancher who decided he wanted to see a real longhorn with his horns turned down. It’s really not a big deal. Get over it.

  75. Obviously says:

I find it absolutely hysterical that aggies are on a website maintained, operated, and owned by UT alumni and current UT students — troll the internet, much, creepers? There’s nothing funny about animal cruelty. Sure, we’re gonna be a BIT more sensitive about it since it’s our mascot and all, but at the end of the day, longhorns stand up for what’s right — Bevo look-alike or not. It’s sad that the school who toots its own horn for saying “Howdy!” and having good manners would overlook such a blatant example of an animal being mistreated, simply because it’s your biggest rival’s (I mean there’s not really a rivalry — we massacre you guys for fun) mascot. I’d have thought a school with 99% of the student body being ex-FFA members would’ve known better.

  76. FAN says:

The University of Texas hates Oklahoma. We really only make fun of ATM. Poor fools they couldn’t make it in the Big 12 and think that the SEC is gonna bring them to national prominence.

  77. LonghornLover says:

First of all i dont care if it hurt it or not, its not natural for a longhorns horns to grow that way. Please have some class! We dont bring 3 legged dogs out on the field at half time to make fun of you. Its just disrespectful, why would you even ridicule an animal like that? What did it do to you? There is a difference between putting that on your shirts and actually doing it in real life. Its low class and bad sportsmanship.

  78. oh aggies... says:

Pathetic… I already got the biggest gift for christmas and that is A&M leaving for the SEC… thank god we won’t have to deal with these losers, doormats, rednecks, envious people, anymore

& please, don’t use the horns down car decals anymore, because if you do after this season, you are even more pathetic

  79. Blah says:

the first thing that comes to my mind is “get over it”…it’s really not a big deal. No it doesn’t hurt the animal, that’s the argument that it’s hurts the animal right? End of argument?

  80. Brian says:

Say it with me folks… Photoshop.

  81. DP says:

    Looks delicious! Medium rare please.

  82. Brian says:

Go google English Longhorns and look at some of the Images.

Guess we got our hands on every single one of these too.

  83. Eric says:

The mentality of Aggies is unreal. Someone actually took the time to plan this and then carry it out, thinking that people would be amazed.

People look at and talk to Aggies the way a college senior would relate to a high school freshman…just ask Rick Perry. What a perfect representative of that 40,000 student middle school.

  84. Taylor says:

Seriously? You all eat animals that you either shoot in the chest, or have their neck slit and you are worried about the way the horns have been made to sit on its head? Who cares? Don’t let your emotional connection to t.u. cloud your logic. There is nothing cruel about this, you are just butt hurt. There are plenty of things you do to shame our school as well. It happens, its a rivalry.

  85. Let It Go says:

Who cares? Quit giving those lames attention. That is what they want. I for one am going to laugh when they walk him across the field. It will just show the rest of the country how pathetic and obsessed they are with all things UT. Who would do something so stupid but an aggy. LOL

  86. Sometimes the horns are naturally deformed. It’s going to be slaughtered and eaten anyway; I don’t see how the shape of the horns matter.

  87. Randy says:

First of all, let me say that I hate A&M to the core. I hate everything I stand for. I am not saying this to defend them. I am simply stating the obvious. None of you know anything about the cattle industry, do you?

I say that becasue if you knew anything about bovine you would know that is an English Longhorn and that is how there horns grow naturally. Google it. Nobody did anything to that animal or photoshopped the picture. The kid is wearing an A&M shirt, probabaly becasue most farmers in the State of Texas are A&M fans, alumni, etc. This makes complete sense given A&M has the only major agricultural educational department in Texas as far as colleges are concerned.

I bet all of you other posters who live in the State of Texas (probably Austin) wear cowboys boots and act country too. All of the hippy city slickers need to chill out and relax.

Even if this were real, the cow would not feel anything and would not know the difference. They do not have nerves in the horns.

  88. James R. Lawrence says:

Longhorns have been bred for years for excessivly long horns by UT ex’s and sympathizers. The comments in the main article regarding cruelty are ridiculous. True cruelty is excessively long horns. To be humane, the horns should be sawed off on this breed until breeding practices can bring them more into line with fitting down a slaughter chute so we can feed the hungry.

  89. H says:

Seriously who cares… Everyone outside of ut sees ut/a&m as a rivalry, it’s just ut that claims they don’t care. It’s just a COW. Who CARES. If a&m means nothing to you then you wouldn’t get so worked over something that will probably be this family’s food. Go get mad at all the other ranchers who weigh horns down. You have NO proof that this was going to be brought out at half time, and NO proof that the guy did this to make fun of tu, rather than maybe a safety precaution seeing how he has a young child. Sheesh

  90. Fost says:

You people are hilarious! Gig ‘Em!

  91. Kaitlin says:

Envy and jealousy is a painful thing to have to live with. The truth of the matter is that 3/4 of the student body of A&M wouldn’t even be there if they could have gotten into “U.T.” in the first place. So that’s what u do, turn this pain into hatred…get therapy! I know that living in the shadow of the big UT must be hard. U guys are no longer a factor – get on board with “your” opponents and get a life…oh and try to keep it classy (maybe an etiquette class or two would help)

  92. RUGBYJAKE says:

Perhaps this creature is a freak of nature with unknown origin, much like A&M. Or, perhaps he is A&M’s new mascot for their foray into the SEC. Things like this make it easy to say, “Don’t let the door hit you …!”

    • T says:

The majority of A&M’s students were in the top 8% of their high school class, so in fact they could get into UT. Stop thinking that the world revolves around you, because it doesn’t.

  93. hp says:

How does this guy eat or drink?

  94. KK says:

Just for the record, I got accepted into UT (I applied for the hell of it) before I got accepted into A&M…and I had a 4.2 coming out of HS. Hmmm….Regardless, UT is a wonderful school, but A&M is prestigious as well.
This animal was not harmed by any Aggies in order to alter the horns. Bevo, on the other hand, was castrated and had his horns weighted to get the desired shape resembling the school logo. Was Bevo truly harmed by these procedures? No. Pot calling the kettle black? Yes, I believe so.
It has been said over and over again, but I’ll go ahead and beat a dead horse: GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU START POINTING FINGERS AND MAKING ACCUSATIONS. Otherwise, your ignorance stands out above any point you try to make.
Plus, smashing A&M and saying we (yes, I am an Aggie grad) are nothing but UT’s leftovers is a completely immature and untrue statement. Most students go to A&M because it was their FIRST choice. A&M definitely does not have the football program that UT has, but I didn’t choose my education based on football records.
So…GROW UP AND GET OVER YOURSELF :)
    Thanks and Gig’em

PS- You should take your own advice on keeping it classy…because those statements you just made were borderline trashy.

  95. Trey says:

If this is cruel, then putting braces on children is cruel. It accomplishes the same general task and is probably less painful than braces. If PETA gets involved in this, then CPS should be involved in punishing every parent who got their kids braces to fix their teeth over time. Personally I think they were too easy on the longhorn….. Saw ‘em off! WHOOP!

  96. mj says:

What does a Longhorn and Aggie have in common?
    They both applied to UT!!

  97. Greg says:

Why is Austin even allowed to be Texas anymore?
It’s called an English Longhorn. It’s a breed. You collective mass of dunces.

  98. I’ve read through some of the posts. Let’s just say I am very proud that I graduated from Texas Tech. It is clear that neither A&M nor UT graduates receive legitimate educations.

    -Wreck ‘em

    • KK says:

Really? Considering Tech Alumni felt obligated to apologize to A&M after fans showed their true character at the game this year, I would say Tech has a lot to learn, not the other way around. Once again, watch your accusations. Unfortunately, Tech has a horrible reputation and it’s mostly due to students’ blunt disrespect. It’s not much of an education if you don’t learn how to act like a civilized adult in the end.

  99. JD says:

Typicl longhorns…weighing in on matters they know nothing about because they overvalue their opinions.

    • Evan says:

dear lord, i think i was just made dumber by your comment. Aggies are the most ignorant pieces of shit on the face of the earth. literally EVERYONE hates yall and the sooner yall realize that, the sooner you’ll actually be able to function in a normal society outside of that shithole college station. you literally think you’re the best at everything every year when in reality you’re absolutely terrible at everything. even in years when you actually have enough talent and ability to contend for a national title (ahem, this year), you fuck it up. aggies are ignorant pieces of shit and although yall may love each other to death, everyone else hates yall, and the sooner yall realize that, the better

      • KK says:

We win national titles, just not in football…lord how we always manage to screw that up.
I do not appreciate you calling Aggies (and that includes me) ignorant. As far as the “shithole” goes, it gave me a strong foundation to continue my education in pharmacy school.
I’m sorry you feel the way you do about A&M, but this really has gotten out of hand. Everyone calling each other names is just pissing in the wind. Bottom line, this article was not researched properly and caused an unnecessary stir.

      • m says:

I go to A&M and have relatives who go to Texas. A lot of friends from Texas visit, and I visit them, and we all have a good time. Yeah maybe we screwed up our football this year, but that doesn’t give you the right to view people who go to A&M as “the most ignorant pieces of shit on the face of the earth”. People don’t become lesser human beings because they go to a certain school. It’s not always about football, that doesn’t define WHO PEOPLE ARE. A&M has won championships in many other sports the past few years, so don’t say we’re “terrible at everything”. People are disrespectful, but I don’t talk shit about people who go to UT, Tech, wherever. You’ll find disrespectful people anywhere you go. I’ll just go cry in a corner now that I’ve realized everyone in the world hates me………. Please, get over yourself.

      • Moose13 says:

The only sport A&M lacks in this year is Football…so maybe before you call them “ignorant pieces of shit” you should do your research and not be ignorant yourself. Although I understand College Football is what most people focus on, you should look up your facts instead of making generalizations about athletics programs as a whole.

Texas A&M is the only college to ever have three time back to back National Championships in both men and womens track

Texas A&M Men’s Baseball went to the college world series last year. They have won 15 Southwest Conference titles, three Big 12 regular-season and two tournament titles, and have made five College World Series appearances.

Womens softball has six college world series appearances.

Men and Womens golf? The men’s program ranked as the best in the Big 12 Conference and No. 15 nationally. The women’s program ranked as the second best in the Big 12 Conference and No. 20 nationally. The mens team won the Big 12 Title in 2010.

Texas A&M womens basketball team won the National Championship last year.

Texas A&M Equestrian team has won more national titles than any other Big 12 school

Texas A&M womens soccer has just advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship

The women’s swimming program has won three of the last four Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, including in 2010. They finished sixth in the 2010 NCAA championships.

Oh and Von Miller? As a junior at Texas A&M, he led the nation in sacks (17) He compiled another 10.5 sacks his senior year. Over his last two seasons as an Aggie, he recorded 27.5 sacks and 39.5 tackles for loss. He received first team All-American honors for both seasons; as a senior, he was a consensus first team All-American He also won the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker.

Yeah you’re right…those Aggies sure are ignorant pieces of shit who are terrible at everything. Have a nice life working at McDonalds, and yes I would like fries with that.

      • Cal says:

Ignorant pieces of shit? Really? I have a 3.9 in the Mechanical Engineering program at A&M. You want to call that ignorant? Literally EVERYONE hates us? I have friends and family who have graduated/go to Bama and LSU. They welcome us with open arms to the SEC. We realize we aren’t great at everything. We’ve got a long way to go with our football program – but a university isn’t its sports programs. And you think we can’t function in a normal society? You are very delusional and I feel sorry for you.

        • Bama says:

You might want to rethink your friends. If they’re anything like the rest of the SEC, they’re treating you like a new little brother. The “new” will wear off (like it already has for most of the conference), and then everyone will start to pick on you. Would you believe that A&M is one of the very VERY few issues Alabama and Auburn fans agree on?

  100. Lil tex says:

Can we say “English Longhorn” Look it up.

  101. 2%er Aggie '12 says:

A buddy of mine is a cattle rancher out in New Mexico and when I showed him this he said he was pretty sure the steer wouldn’t feel any pain. I guess it’s sort of like when you wear shoes a certain shape, or longer than you’re supposed to, and your foot starts to grow around them somewhat.

Either way, even as an Aggie, I think this is probably a bit over the top. Perhaps I need to attend grad school over at “that other school down the road.”

  102. Ashley S says:

And with this, Lynn Freehill skyrockets from a lifetime career record of 0 comments/post to 233 comments/post. All through a short, half-researched “article”.

  103. AGGIES12 says:

Most here (who apparently know next to nothing about livestock, their anatomy and how they are raised) will be impossible to convince by facts and persuasion. It is best to just ask them to google “english longhorn” and be done with it:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/12363891@N03/2860574640/

There is nothing inhumane or cruel about this. The Longhorns don’t feel a thing, and as evidenced by the photo they obviously don’t notice a difference. It literally has zero impact on their lives. Of course, I’m sure you’re all just fine with the method used for slautering cattle though, which involves stunning them with a cattle gun (a blast of high pressure air to through the forehead) and slitting their throats.

This is nothing but Texas fans looking for something to get upset about.

  104. JP says:

I love how so many idiots actually believe that Texas A&M University had anything to do with this steers horn development and that it was all done in order to parade the stupid thing out on the field at halftime. Seriously? Surely you’ve poked enough fun at A&M in thier traditions over the years to realize that Aggies don’t ever change shit unless forced. So the only thing the Aggies will be parading across the field on gameday will be a shit ton of band-queers, doing the same formations and songs as they always have, as is tradition.

  105. gig 'em says:

As an Aggie, I think rivalry went to a whole new level.. not a good thing. I understand that this did not harm the animal. So, for people who keep saying it is animal cruelty… Do you eat beef? If so.. do you not know the process of how it is made? Or do you just not think about it? If you do know the process, how is changing the shape of horns more cruel than that? I am not saying this is okay, if the reason for it was purely for the sake of rivalry, but it is sad a tradition that has been around since 1916 is ending, the Thanksgiving Day game. The reason our war hymn is about Texas is because it was written in 1920, when the rivalry was in fact two-sided. I understand that Texas does not see us as a huge rivalry anymore, but as far as tradition goes,(which is what A&M is all about) we continue using our original song. I’m sorry this upsets you and that some of you feel thankful ‘to not deal with A&M fans anymore’, but there are die-hard, outrageous fans for every university. The actions of one should not be a representative of every fan.

  106. Aggie Gal says:

I can’t understand how any longhorns think that it’s ridiculous for Texas A&M to have such a strong rivalry agaisnt Texas. Afterall we are both the two largest and oldest public universities in texas. Not only that but we also have one of the oldest and most bitter rivalries of all time. With all of the pranks we’ve each pulled on eachother its always been a crazy rivalry. Its a known fact across the state of Texas that A&M hates Texas and Texas hates A&M. Growing up in texas you dont favor between Texas or OU….. it’s between A&M and Texas and you hear things like longhorn vs. aggie jokes. Our rivalry with eachother has been around way longer than any rivalry you may have formed with OU. You’re rivalry with OU has only developed as stongly as it has fairly recently in the scope of time. And it’s only happened because both of your football teams have done so well over the last several years so it only makes sense for you to rival one another. We’re aware that our football program has not been the best as of late, but thats not going to get rid of any sense of rivalry we feel for texas seeing as its already been going on for 100 years. But the rivalry we have with eachother exists outside of football. We’re just as competitive when in comes to basketball and baseball and even academics. Correct me if Im wrong but I believe the rivalry of Texas and OU mostly exists for football. And you can’t act like you dont hate A&M just as much when you call us things like “faggies” or even from all the hatred seen on this post. Texas cares about hating A&M too. We’re going to the SEC to try and better our sports programs, not because we hate Texas or are afraid of yall. We want the rivalry to continue because its a good rivalry, its been around for years, and the state of texas loves it. But dont act like its always been a onesided rivalry or that you dont care about A&M because clearly you do.

  107. Titus says:

look at all these unhappy people on the internet!

    I lol’ed.

  108. Shaggy Bevo says:

Proper credit needs to be given here. Hornfans took it from Shaggy Bevo, where I posted it after receiving it from the girl who was bragging about it on Texags (post has since been removed by their moderators).

  109. LonghornBob says:

I’m shocked and concerned that anyone is actually shocked and concerned. They’re Aggies people… they’re Aggies…

  110. Not an Aggie says:

You think putting weights on horns hurt? BEVO HAD HIS FUCKING NUTS RIPPED OFF!

  111. Steven says:

UT tried to do the same thing with an aggie, but found that it was already deformed.

  112. Lola says:

Stop saying “TU” it’s not clever.

  113. KenMan says:

Thanksgiving will be a game between two “also-rans” so who cares. Maybe UT can borrow it for the Baylor game afterwards.

  114. Was An Aggie Fan, But Now I Am Ashamed says:

This is animal cruelty and simply a disgrace.

  115. P.G. says:

I’m a longhorn but to back Texaglaw, have y’all tried to carry something that was tall? Its top heavy and could easily fall. If you have the same weight with a lower center of gravity it is easier to handle.

  116. Saw em off says:

To all of you dumb ass t-sips on here saying that this is cruel.. It is a fucking cow.. The fact of the matter is since the begging of time people have identified their cattle by sticking iron in a fire and permenently scaring it in the shap of the brand.. Here is a familliar one for you all the brand 13-0 is actually how your beloved hamburger got its name

  117. saxman_13 says:

Typical Longhorns getting their panties in a twist over nothing. It is normal for some longhorn cattle owners to weigh down the horns of their cattle for many different purposes, it does not harm the animal, so all of you PETA nuts can give it a rest. This is hardly harmful, and hasn’t just happened over the last couple of days. This is a process that begins when they are young, and there truly is no harm in it. This is hardly an Aggie prank, it just happened that the Aggie owns longhorns and he’s weighed down its horns. Get a life and start worrying about stuff that is ACTUALLY a problem…good greif.
    Thanks & Gig ‘Em…
(p.s. I’m thinking I’m having beef this year instead of turkey! :P )

  118. Saw em off says:

To all of you dumbass t-sips on hear crying saying this is cruelty.. It is a fucking cow.. Is bull riding crualty?? There is the weight of the rider on his back and a band near his balls.. Is it crualty that bevo has his nuts banded and cut off known as castartion..Since the beging of time people have identified their livestock by putting iron in a fire and burning a scar in the shape of their brand on the side of the cow. A little history lesson for y’all is that a brand reading 13-0 is actually how you beloved hamburger got his name.. Go cry a river you tree hugging hippies

  119. Saw em off says:

If you want to cry about threatening with the cock suckers from PETA why don’t you start by crying about rodeo which I’m sure PETA is perfectly aware of in rodeo there is roping, bull doging, and bill riding which are all afflictions of an action torwards cattle, people have genetically altered and bred cattle for specific purposes for a long time. And at the end of the road for most livestock is your dinner plate, it always has been..

  120. Justin says:

Ok, where to start…? First, the configuration may be easier on the animal due to a lower moment of inertia. Since Longhorn Engineering is an oxymoron, let me explain. That refers to how easy an object is to rotate. The further out the weight is, the higher the moment and the harder the rotation. Second, there is no way that would end up on Kyle Field at halftime. A&M is not an overgrown high school, so our halftime shows never stoop to mocking the opposing school. This is another case of people with too much time an ego looking for outrage. Get a life.

    • Bevo15 says:

“A&M is not an overgrown high school, so our halftime shows never stoop to mocking the opposing school.” Haha yeah buddy. So your band never forms up the Longhorn symbol and proceeds to symbolically cut the horns off when they hit the 50 yard line huh? Try again Justin and this time take your maroon colored glasses off. Oh and come to think of it half of your yells and nearly your entire fight song attempts to mock UT. I guess that aggie brainwashing at freshman orientation could be an excuse for you forgetting that.

      • Mattew says:

None of Texas A&M’s yells have anything to do with your school.
        http://yell.tamu.edu/yells
We have played each other in football 117 times, so I don’t know why it’s a big deal that the second verse of our fight song refers to UT.

I hear that you t-sips have a big ‘hex rally’ before you play A&M. THEREFORE YOU MUST BE JEALOUS OF A&M. (sarcasm)

  121. skoalkat says:

yall should go here and read before you make accusations

    http://commonsenseagriculture.com/2011/02/12/tipping-horns/

  122. Brittany says:

The point is that this man did this in order to taunt UT. I’m sure he wasn’t focused on helping this animal at all. Just like a majority of “spirit” at atm, it all links back to Texas. Good luck changing everything about your fight song and wearing your pointless saw ‘em off shirts when you move to the sec. Sorry aggies are obsessed with longhorns, but this seems a little ridiculous.

  123. Zane says:

Go to Sixth Street and you will see stranger things there that people have done to change their body and I doubt it was painful.

  124. Bevo15 says:

I love how anytime people have a problem with something related to A&M, the aggies come out of the woodwork trying to defend it. Yes fighting farmers we understand that weights are used on Horns but to keep them on for an extended period of time with the sole intent to create a “Horns Down” Longhorn is what is just plain sick. Now if this really is a breed that has horns like that I stand corrected, but I have never seen livestock with that size of horns ever point down to that degree.

As for the aggies and those defending them, we understand that your school is a very good, well respected institution. It is just sad that your old traditions and antics make you look backwards and silly still to this day. Calling UT, “TU”? When outsiders hear that they immediately roll their eyes are simply say, “really?”. Using bible versus on T-shirts concerning cutting horns off? Having your band form up our symbol and cut the horns off? Having nearly your entire fight song concern UT? Acting like you’re the greatest fans on earth constantly even though you haven’t sold out a year of aggie football in decades?

Now aggies, don’t start trying to claim you were the first University in Texas and all that. The true facts are that the State Legislature passed laws to create two schools, the first being the Univeristy of Texas as a University of the “first class” for education in arts, sciences, law, medicine, etc. The second school in the Brazos valley region was to be a branch of the main University and teach agriculture and mechanics and was considered a COLLEGE, not a Univeristy. Obviously Texas A&M College opened first but I have a feeling that the accredidation process was a bit more lax for a college versus a school wanting the “University” tag at that time. A few years later, UT opened to become the first UNIVERSITY in Texas and in 1929 became an original member of the Association of Public Ivy Universities joining 7 other schools. The aggie jealousy started back then, has been here ever since and will always be here. That is the end of the story.

    • Matthew says:

I love how you begin your comment by admitting that you really don’t know anything and go on to conclude that the Aggies must be in the wrong because they are jealous.

  125. clarity says:

    why does this even matter…

  126. bob says:

haha im a huge aggie fan and if i had this longhorn id kill him and mount it on my wall!

  127. Shawn says:

So, excuse me for jumping in on this article, considering I don’t go to either school, but a different university all together. However, this isn’t by any means torture, nor uncommon. Its called Horn Tipping, and its fairly common.

    http://commonsenseagriculture.com/2011/02/12/tipping-horns/

  128. GregL says:

So how is this any different than clipping dog’s ears and clipping dog’s tails? How about breeders who put rubber bands on dog’s tails at birth until their tail eventually falls off. Is this cruelty? I’m pretty sure it’s legal.

  129. Rob says:

A lot of butt hurt t-sips around here

  130. StrongEnough says:

As someone who will be on the field at halftime, I can honestly say that ya’ll are ridiculous. Not all Aggies are obsessed with t.u. I actually have t-sip friends. *gasp* we BTHO everyone, not just ya’ll so chill. These rivalries are all good bull. (whether the horns are up or down) I resent the comments about inbreeding, the idiocy of Aggies, and our alleged preoccupation with agriculture. oh, and sheep sex. (Way to keep it classy) I personally represent one small portion of a huge number of National Merit Scholars that chose to attend Texas A&M for it’s spirit. Yes, I was offered full ride scholarships to other schools. Yes, I got into t.u. No, I am not inbred, and I’m not in agriculture. In fact, most of my friends are engineering majors. By the way, I’m a female in the Corps of Cadets (Yes, that’s right, CORPS has an “s”.) As well as a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. Let’s keep it classy, and stop resorting to idiotic mudslinging and disgusting references. Thanks, and Gig ‘em!

  131. Rusty S. says:

This rivalry started as a healthy one, and perhaps for some it still is. Unfortunately, for many Aggies and Longhorns I know, it’s devolved into an irrational hatred for the other. The Longhorns tend to be far classier in person than the Aggies do, but behind their backs, the Horns can be just about as hateful. It’s terrible, and I’m sure our Lord is disappointed. I try to keep it classy, myself, but then I see my sweet, nice daughter say things about the Aggies that sadden me. She’s picked it up from Longhorn cousins, aunts, uncles and maybe from me. I usually think of my Aggie nephew and niece as brainwashed, since they can be so snarky toward us, but am I returning the favor? I sure hope not.

Both sides, let’s try to keep it classy. Treat others with love and respect, no matter what color their shirt or what school name on the degree or ring.
